Quinnipiac University has a new Iowa poll out that offers good news for Scott Walker. The Wisconsin governor's lead among Republicans in the neighboring state has slipped slightly, but he's still about two miles ahead.
The more interesting details emerge once you compare the new poll to Quinnipiac's last survey in the state, completed in February. At the time, there weren't any actual candidates in the race. Comparing the February results to the new ones, though, reinforces something we saw elsewhere: Campaign launches boost candidates.
Any dot above the red dotted line marks a candidate who's doing better than two months ago. Dots beneath? Worse. So Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has seen a big jump, as has Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.). Jeb Bush, whom some may remember from previous seasons of "The Bushes," saw his support fall 50 percent.
The Rubio and Cruz surges, though, have different causes. Cruz saw big gains among members of the tea party, evangelical Christians and staunch conservatives, at the expense of Rick Santorum and Walker.
Rubio's jump came from somwehat-conservative voters (Quinnipiac's term) and moderate or liberal ones -- mostly at the expense of Jeb Bush and Chris Christie.
This is just Iowa, mind you, but it shows precisely the dynamic that Cruz in particular hopes to replicate nationally: a strong pitch for the far right that boosts his chances for the GOP presidential nomination. The problem for Cruz and Rubio is that you only get one campaign launch. And there are a lot more of those to come.

So Bernie Sanders has a chance??
I agree.
You always have the guys that are smarter than everyone else, who still think doing the same old thing will get us something better than Dole, Bush, McCain, and Romney.
I may be dumb as a box of rocks, but even I can see the old tried and true way isn’t going to cut it this election cycle.
No matter who gets the nomination, they all need to vote for either Cruz or Rubio or whoever it is but Bush. I just think that we are done if Hillary gets in.
The change in Iowa: Conservatives move to Cruz, moderates to Rubio

OK now we’re cookin..
Bet you never expected to hear that from me. :)
Why?
Jeb’s dead baby, Jeb’s dead.
You know what, I don’t mind that at all. I understand and identify with your comment.
Just as well get it on the record. Maybe someone will remember this in 2024.
Don’t hold your breath.
Yep, 2024 will be our next chance, if the dupe in 2016 and 2020 doesn’t take a —— on the nation in October of 2024, like Bush did in 2008.
I’ll likely be dead before we get another chance to get a Conservative president if we don’t do it in 2016.
If we don’t elect a conservative in 2016, we may all be gone without ever seeing another conservative in the White House. It’s that important, imho.
That’s right.
Right now, it’s the culmination of this same concept playing out since President Ronald Reagan.
People would do well to consider that, and get serious this time around.
If I would have stated what I am now, when Reagan left office, who would have believed that from that day on we would nominate the likes of Dole, Bush, McCain, and Romney?
Well, I’m stating it now. Okay folks, do you want another period like the one from Reagan until now?
If not, wake the hell up and get your act together.
If someone is lying to you, just realize you want that drug and, “Just say no.”
It’s intersting that political insiders in Iowa and S,C. give the edge to Cruz by a good margin. I don’t know how much value polls have at this point, but grassroots people on the ground are usually pretty accurate.
Good Work, Guys! Keep the Faith!
I’m gravely concerned about this coming election.
Iowa is a caucus state, so polls mean less and people with lots of personal contacts mean a lot more. Cruz may have an ‘edge’, but is still likely to finish behind Walker, who has the backing of Gov. Branstad’s establishment.
Thanks. d :^)
Time will tell. Thanks for the info.
See a Dr.
So am I.
Read my lips folks. I’m not going to vote for a Republican(d).
If you want Hillary, put up a liar, or a moron on immigration policy. I’ll stay home.
If someone wants my vote this time around, they’re going to have to earn it.
Maddow played a clip of Ron Paul groupies in 2008 chasing a FNC camera crew and Hannity yelling ‘Fox Sucks....’ because Ron was excluded from a RNC debate.
