Attorney: Spy chief had 'forgotten' about NSA program when he misled Congress

Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper wasn’t lying when he wrongly told Congress in 2013 that the government does not “wittingly” collect information about millions of Americans, according to his top lawyer.

He just forgot.

“This was not an untruth or a falsehood. This was just a mistake on his part,” Robert Litt, the general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said during a panel discussion hosted by the Advisory Committee on Transparency on Friday.

“We all make mistakes.”

Lies, lies and more lies. That's all these people seem to do.

IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE!! That’s the answer we civilians would get from the IRS or EPA.

We have a liar and a moron in charge of “Intelligence.” Quite fitting for this out-of-control, corrupt regime.

The IRS recently garnished me out of nowhere. Zero recourse. No signature of any authority, nothing. Just a writ of garnishment. Had not been contacted once.

There was absolutely nothing I could do about it. So I just had to suck it up and pay.

Whats even funnier is that I could probably copy the documents sent to my employer, with a routing number to some account under a false name, and my employer would garnish without a second thought.

I actually asked for documentation of the writ and the complaint from my employer. They never sent me a single piece of paper. FUIRS.

Reminds me oh so well of how Bill and Hillary refined and made popular the bald-faced lie told openly, publicly, brazenly, and with impunity at the head of our country where it has been increasingly rotting thereafter.

When Americans in general are so darkened in mind that a majority of voters repeatedly choose so badly whom they will have to lead them, the current state and trend is the eventual natural consequence. Moral decline darkens the Light; and in darkness countries, reflecting their people, values and institutions, stagger ever closer to the edge.

IMHO.

Can I say next April 15, “I forgot to pay my taxes.”

When the IRS ‘collects taxes’ in that manner, it feels as though someone in a black hood robbed you and drove away.
It is a frustrating feeling, that makes me less likely to vote YES for any new taxes, no matter what they are allegedly for. I get the impression, the typical IRS agent has low self esteem, and uses their ‘clout’ as a Tax Man, to push folks around and anonymously bleed them dry just because they can. Think Barney Fife, with a big shiny badge and a heavy ‘sorta loaded’ pistol.

Dishonesty has become so commonplace that it’s expected.

Regardless, people are still held accountable for making mistakes.

The government holds regular people accountable for honest mistakes. All the g-d time. Without any mercy.

They screw people who haven’t even made any mistakes. Tell me that this putz shouldn’t be accountable for his “mistake”.

Further I do not believe he forgot. I believe he is lying to cover up the first lie.

Well I could see this happening.

I mean, who among us hasn’t, say, robbed a bank and then completely forgot about it?

Totally understandable.

They don’t “wittingly” collect info., they nitwittingly or halfwittingly collect it.

I simply forgot
I lied to my diary
I cannot recall
I don’t believe you can show that I was actually told that.....
I misremembered
I misstated
That depends on the meaning of “is”
I misunderstood the question
I don’t think you’ll be able to prove I am that person

.......the beat goes on...

A Clinton disciple no doubt. The question is why did his Lawyer come out with this now? As far as I know the Redumblicans weren’t coming after him. Not that it would matter. He must be lining up his next job / book deal.

One would think that a functional memory is a prerequisite to holding the position of Director of National Intelligence unless of course his intelligence is in direct proportion to the intelligence in Washington..........

You didn’t have a clue as to WHY they garnished you? Or was it that you did have a clue but you were expecting some letter of explanation of why you owed money and when you were expected to send the check or to make arrangements to make payments?(and instead they just yanked money from you with no warning. Was it a one time “steal”?)

Martha Stewart lied to congress and she served five months in jail followed by two years of supervised release.

Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper just forgot and will serve no time.
