I’m a Florist, But I Refused to Do Flowers for my Gay Friend’s Wedding
Washington Post ^ | 2/12

I’ve been a florist in Richmond, Wash., for more than 30 years. In that time, I’ve developed close relationships with many of my clients.

One of my favorites was Rob Ingersoll. Ingersoll came in often and we’d talk. Like me, he had an artistic eye. I’d try to create really special arrangements for him. I knew he was gay, but it didn’t matter — I enjoyed his company and his creativity.

Then he asked me to create the floral arrangements for his wedding. I love Rob, and I’d always been happy to design for his special days. But there’s something different about a wedding.

Every person in the creative professions regularly has to make decisions about where they lend their artistic talents and which events they will participate in. For me, it’s never about the person who walks into the shop, but about the message I’m communicating when someone asks me to “say it with flowers.”

I was raised Christian. In my religious tradition, marriage is a sacred religious ceremony between a man, a woman and Christ.

Why would someone agree to be a paving stone on someone’s way to hell?

Are you still going to be friends after that?

Very well written but this should teach her a lesson on who she befriends. These people are insane.

Apparently Rob doesn’t think NEARLY so much of you!

Rob, how could she?

I mean, don’t you know how offensive that would be to Muslims?

Unless he's the ‘catcher’ and is dominated by a politically aggressive liberal fag who makes all the decisions.

Trying to humor the mentally ill usually results in a bad outcome. Not humoring the mentally ill always results in a bad outcome.

What people need to realize is that you have two types. You have genuine homosexuals and basic hedonists. Hedonists have their own issues but they are in it for the sex. Period. It’s JUST about the sex where and whenever with whoever. Male or female is fine. They don’t care. They can be dealt with in a nearly normal manner outside sex issues because they are pretty normal outside sex issues. It’s the genuine homosexuals that are the real problem. EVERY TIME.

Rob isn’t and never was your friend. He is a member of the gaystapo who will not stop until you are destroyed for not celebrating his perversion.

This has been in the news in Washington state but I did not know that Rob was a friend of hers.

These gays are trying to sue her out of her business and even her home. It is horrific.

This florist should tell his friend that he has gotten GREAT resistance from some Islamic group, and for that reason, is fearful of filling the request, because of probable retaliation by the Muslims.

Just getting that idea out there should put the brakes on all this “demand” that gay weddings should be catered, no matter what the personal beliefs of the service provider may be.

If the Muslims come after the provider of the service, they may well come after the persons for whom the services were provided.

Friendship be damned. I want the crocodiles to eat me last.

Among the ones I looked at, the letters on the WaPo site were running about 10-1 against the florist. That’s very discouraging.

ONe of my son’s chose a gay life style. I say chose, because it is a choice. The scientific literature based on twins separated supports this. Until some years ago it was determined to be a mental illness with a disease ICD-9 code. Based on world wide research over one hundred years in the making.

My son lived a tortured life, fighting drug and alc addiction as well as “fightin” the compulsion to be with the same sex, going through a couple relationships and eventually “married.” ONe night something happened between them and his partner walked out. He was devastated, and in mental pain. He started drinking again after being sober almost one year. Left alone he took his own life.

I don’t think his story is a unique one. I of course, am going through alot of guilt about this, that may never completely go away.

I don’t think anyone in this country will stand up and debate this issue. REsearch that may help these people at a young age is now not even legal in some states, Chris Christie’s state for one.

For some being gay is a higher form of love making, supposedly harmless, but when marriage sanctifies it, I think we’re in a different playing field. ONe that leads invariably to unhappiness many times death.

Read the comments at the site. Given, this is a liberal rag, but even so, this country is sliding to Gomorra

I have a libinlaw that was adamant that it wasn’t a choice. I mean vehement and emotional about it.

I kept calmly explaining that there has never been a scientific study that concluded that sexual preference is genetic.

It ended up that I might not have been wrong, but I was certainly “mean”.

I figured it out later - if it’s a choice, there’s a moral component, and therefore judgment of right vs wrong, and THAT’S what she was so emotional about.
