Moscow and Tehran have concluded negotiations on the delivery of the Russia's long-range S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Iran, which should take place "within a short period," said Iranian Deputy Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, on a visit in Moscow on Monday.

"The negotiations were completed successfully. I believe that the delivery of the S-300 will take place in a relatively short time", the Iranian deputy minister was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

From jpost.com.....

“The developments in Yemen and the rest of the region point to huge risks. We don’t want Iran to become another target for the illegitimate use of force,” [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov said in the radio interview with Sputnik.

Flashback to October 2012.....

“Gov. Romney, I'm glad that you recognize that al Qaeda is a threat,” Obama said, “because a few months ago when you were asked what's the biggest geopolitical threat facing America, you said Russia.”

“The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War's been over for 20 years,” Obama said.

This decision of President Putin displeased many in the West. Washington declared that such sales "do not help" the conclusion of a final agreement with Iran on its nuclear program, while Israel expressed the fear that the sale would "reinforce the aggressiveness" of Tehran.

Ha. Team Valerie isn't upset. It WANTS an Iranian regime with nukes.

Anyone think the networks will report this news????

No. Syria was supposed to receive the systems by 2014, but the civil unrest have complicated the delivery and training to make the system fully operational.

Difficult to understand how Russia and Israel have diplomatic relations. Israel continues to be painted into a corner and when they understand that, woe be unto whoever has the paint brush.

I read somewhere that the S300 Russian system is a very capable AA missile system?

Like any system ultimately it’s only as good as the crew’s training and execution.

As with many systems in the west, the S-300 utilizes multiple guidance systems and is thus very accurate.

While not the most advanced system produced in Russia, any of the three variants are really mobile and really fast. Even with the speed this missile is capable of, it has been shot down by another of the same.

It has evolved from year to year, and has roughly the same capabilities as a “Patriot” system.

Any variant sold to Iran represents a far more advanced threat than what we in the west would have gone up against before now.

**It should be noted that Russia has for years been behind Iran’s nuclear development as well.
