i can still remember watching Affirmed win it in 1978, I was very very young at the time, I would imagine Hillary was around 45?

They stuck a microphone on the jockey and his first words after winning were “Puta! Holy shit!”. Forever engraved on history.....

next thing to happen, Obama will find a reason/accomplishment that helped the horse win a triple crown.

I wonder how jockey Martin Garcia feels. He was the only other jock to ride AP. He rode him once, in his very first race. Finished 5th, beaten 9 lengths! Victor Espinoza took over after that and has been perfect on him ever since.

Great race, great horse! I'm glad I was able to witness it first hand on TV...........
As a side note, following the death of what I feel is the greatest thoroughbred of all time, Secretariat, an autopsy revealed he had an enlarged heart which may have contributed to his success as a race horse........

A great race, but that frikkin’ Bob Costas yammering on and on. Someone put a gag on him. He tried to read a paragraph full of old worn out cliches in that broadcast.I’d have turned the sound down but my folks wanted to listen to it all.

Fine horse. Not as great as Secretariat, but he’s in the history books, and he deserves to be.
