NDP continues decline as Tories, Liberals battle for first in new Ipsos poll (Canada)

With just two weeks left in the federal election campaign, the Conservatives are now the top choice for voters, according to a new Ipsos poll conducted for Global News.

But their lead is about as small as it can get-just one percentage point ahead of the Liberals.

The poll, conducted between Oct. 2 and Oct. 5, surveyed 1,441 people online and found that 33 percent of decided voters would vote for the Conservative Party, while 32 percent would vote for the Liberal Party.....

The NDP-once the clear frontrunners in the campaign-has dropped to third with 26 percent support......

Tom Mulcair's NDP has seen a marked decline in support over the last few weeks, mostly due to the party's stance on the niqab. The NDP and Liberals have the same position on the Niqab, that it could be worn during the citizenship ceremony.......

Quebec, which has been Mulcair's base of support, has become a four-way race, according to the latest Ipsos poll. The NDP still has a lead, but its only six percentage points from the their highest level of support in the province. The Bloc Quebecois, Liberals and Conservatives are all tied at 23 percent.

The Liberal Party has the most room to grow...with more people seeing Trudeau as the best choice to replace Harper. At the outset of the campaign, the NDP was seen as the best alternative to Harper. But that's changed, with 51 percent believing Trudeau now offers the best alternative.......

Early voting is getting underway but the main voting is Election Day October 19th in Canada with a tight race.

The Liberals were surging earlier this year in polling but the Conservatives launched a media campaign against Liberal leader Justin Trudeau back in July just before the election call.

But there are signs that Trudeau and the Liberals are rising in support.

There were 30 new House of Commons seats added for this election with the ruling Conservatives drawing them to their advantage. This means the Liberals can lead in popular vote but the Conservatives lead in more seats.

There are 338 seats being contested.

The socialistic NDP are the official opposition in the current House of Commons, due to a surge in their support in Quebec in the last election. But their support for the allowing Muslim women to wear the niqab (veil) at citizenship ceremonies is turning off Quebec voters. The courts, of course, have given the green light for the niqab.

The party leaders, PM Stephen Harper of the Conservatives, Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Justin Trudeau of the Liberals.

Concerning Trudeau’s numbers, once you take out the 416/905 area (Toronto) and the Maritimes (Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island), his numbers drop a great deal. These are the only areas where he does well in, even though he will also do well here in Ottawa due to the disgruntled civil servant vote against Harper.

In reality also, if he were elected to the premiership, I and many others here see him barely getting out of the starting gate without being a very serious disappointment to many who expect a lot of him due to his heritage and the promises he’s made to people.

To my dismay and disappointment, I just learned that my once conservative son is voting for the Liberals this time around. I am certainly NOT going to remind him to vote on October 19th!

I pray we keep the adults in charge.

Frankly Justin looks good like Stephen Harper did when he was younger. Mulcair’s facial hair is probably a turnoff in the ‘beauty contest’.

It was no coincidence we heard the female used in the media campaign in July telling us Justin ‘wasn’t ready’ for the job. I heard it as I vacationed in Ontario and it was obviously a deep, wide, sustained and apparently effective campaign that knocked the Liberals numbers down.

How is that possible?

What could he possible see in the younger Trudeau that makes him think the dilettante would make a decent PM? The fashion show runway walks? The job experience as a camp counselor?

He points to the scandals with the Conservatives. Plus he has been greatly influenced by our left wing media, as have his friends. I was always grateful my kids didn’t go to university so that they did not become indoctrinated, just to have the media do the job.

Scandals????

Molehills made into mountains by a compliant media. For anybody over 50 the name "Trudeau" is anathema.

Unless I am incorrect Harper is one of the few leaders in the world to say no to syrian refugees. That was a courageous stand, I hope he will be rewarded for it.

Re Trudeau le deuxieme: Liberals all want to be king, so they project themselves into one.

Is it not true that The Liberal Party and the NDP are virtually the same? And is it also not true that Canadian Conservatives as a whole are really at best RINOs, fiscal conservatives?

How old is he? Send me his number via freepmail. I will talk to him.

Does he know that Trudeau's dad, during the war, liked to ride through the streets of Montreal in a German officer's uniform? Just a boyish prank no doubt, and among the least of his crimes.

Lol - tempting! He’s 27 years old on October 18th. Maybe getting a year older just in time to vote will help! Tell you what....I am going to tell him that I gave his number to you and see how he reacts. If he’s open for a discussion, I will send you his number. If he balks, I will nix the idea.

He’s pretty strong in his opinions, which was great when he was on our side! My daughter, also very strong, is very conservative and holds her ground when talking to her brother, as is her husband. So we’re all out to win him back, but he reads something called VICE news. I didn’t spend much time on it, but it looks quite left.

He agreed to accept 20-thousand in the debate, Trudeau said 25-thousand and Mulcair many more.

The Conservative Party of Canada came about after the old Progressive Conservative Party was crushed when its leader imposed a national sales tax in the 1980’s. A third party, the Reform Party, emerged. It evolved into the Canadian Alliance and eventually was merged into a new Conservative Party of Canada with the old CINO apparatus.

During this decade plus period the Liberal Party ruled with corruption, a failed ‘gun registry’ plan and so on.

Canada survived the third party period without the so-called “Conservative” party winning elections.

CPC, the new party, espouses fiscal conservatism but has not delivered a lower deficit, leading some conservative voters to be cynical about its sincerity.

Harper is more pro-Israel than Obama and enjoys “Israel Lobby” support for sure.

On social issues-freedom of speech-the CPC suppresses any comments by its candidates that are not PC or suggest a strong Pro-Life or Pro-Family stance.

Thanks that`s what I was after.... quite sad

So yes that means the Conservative party of Canada are basically Rino`s if you compared it to US politics

Canada has no Christian coalition of any kind... yes the US is not perfect but they have Tea Party Social Conservatives that have a large voice, I dont see that in Canada at all, it`s like they have given up.

Justin is talking pretty moderate but he would govern with the NDP most likely assuring quite a mix of negative policy.

But I don’t necessarily cheer for Harper either. I just accept that Harper has failed as a fiscal conservative just like the RINO’s in this country and he’s going to pay for that on October 19th.

The only question is how much he will pay for that and other matters that concern grassroots conservatives in Canada like the C-51 Bill to combat ‘extremism’ in the country which has a rather loose definition of ‘extremism’.

Not much room for error.

If there’s a conservative plurality will the douchebags form a coalition or might it be a conservative minority government?

A Conservative minority government would be a possibility if the Tories can win the most seats, which is possible even if the Liberals lead in popular votes because of the addition of 30 new seats in the House of Commons for this election that involved ‘gerrymandering’ by the Tories.
