“I see that Common Core history is alive and well...”
Boy, that’s the truth! We are raising a nation of ignoramuses, and that’s the reason we will very likely fight another uncivil war one day. Heaven help us.
It’s history, a history with which the country had made peace to the point of reunions of Union and Confederate soldiers, who shook hands. Now, that history has fallen into official disfavor to the point of attempts to eradicate it. For those who agree, stop and think for a minute. If entire swathes of national history can be essentially erased, what’s next? Whether you agree or disagree with groups and individuals memorializing the former Confederacy, it’s a dangerous precedent.
This article doesn’t really get into the “history” or “heritage” these particular individuals are supposedly preserving. Most of the time it is the mythology created by the former Confederate politicians after they lost the war to save face, not actual history. At the time of the secession and prior to the war, there is absolutely no ambiguity that the core reason for the secession was slavery and white supremacist theory. The resolutions of secession state this, and what is dubbed “The Cornerstone Speech” given by the Confederate Vice President outlining the core principles of the Confederacy leaves little to the imagination. However, it is indeed true that most, if not all, of those proclaiming “confederate heritage” are not motivated by racism and are not the least bit racist - they just believe the mythology of the Confederacy created after the war was over.
They don’t even teach correct history today and having lived up north I can honestly say the media, many of the people, and schools still are fighting the war.
Bit like Michelle Obama said how they want history changed.
My husband and son are members of SCV. My great great grandfather was a Confederate soldier at Shiloh. I grew up with my parents taking me to Shiloh Park. I’m 69. When I was a child, the Bloody Pond was a lot darker than it has been in later years when I’ve gone there. In my grandpa’s words, Shiloh was a “mess”, so much so that they couldn’t even tell if or when they hit someone. A bloody ground.
We have one flag- The Stars and Stripes
I meant we have one flag. The Stars And Stripes as our national flag. The flag of The United States of America.
Hey pal, I graduated high school forty years ago, ok? Way long before there ‘’Common F**king Core’, you dig?
Excellent post. It never ceases to amaze me the hypocrisy in people who no doubt feel themselves to be conservatives who I’m sure vote Republican but revere the Democrat South of The Confederacy.
I live in Lafayette County in Missouri and as near as I can tell it leaned Confederate during the Civil War. I know that the Union lost two battles up in Lexington. There’s a Confederate memorial and cemetery over in Higginsville, where bits and pieces of William Quantrill used to be buried, and a Joe Shelby park over in Waverly. With that much tradition here then why shouldn’t the SCV have a right to hold their meetings and fly their flag without questioning their motives?
So you have no one to blame for your ignorance but yourself, you dig?
FYI, I graduated more than fifty years ago, when you could still get a good education in a public school. You say your went to Catholic schools? With your attitude, I’ll bet your knuckles were on a first name basis while the nuns’ rulers!
Chump.
Is it true that the majority of confedrate soldiers weren’t slave owners but were rallied by slave owners to fight a war against northern aggression?
I suppose someone could say that - at least partially.
And how do you feel about Town flags? We are one from many.
And how do you feel about Town flags? We are one from many.
Massachusetts never passed legislation outlawing slavery up there but they sent white soldiers to invade the south. The liberals up there continue to this day to claim to be superior to southerners.
“Except that it only became a confederate idea when they broke away from the union and went to war against their own neighbors in order to perpetuate the Peculiar Institution.”
With that line of stupidity, you would say the Nazi were only trying to right the wrongs of WWI.
If you want to compare your kin to Nazis who am I to object?
since black leaders have no history worth damn, they don’t comprehend history
stone age has no history and no future
