Switzerland just elected a new parliament, and a conservative, anti-immigration party, the Swiss People’s Party (SVP) won a record vote, enabling it to form a government with a conservative majority. The political fallout in Europe is just beginning, and Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats in Germany had better take notice. The BBC reports on the Swiss election:
The right-wing, anti-immigration Swiss People's Party (SVP) has won Switzerland's parliamentary election with a record 29.4% of the vote.
Its victory translates into 11 extra seats, giving it 65 out of the total 200 in the lower house.
Europe's migrant crisis boosted support for the SVP, commentators say - though Switzerland is taking in far fewer migrants than Germany.
The right-wing liberal FDP also got an electoral boost, coming third.
Swiss media are speaking of a "Rechtsrutsch" - a "slide to the right" - because the SVP, FDP and some small right-wing parties can now command a majority in the National Council (lower house).
The election is also dampening the possibility of Switzerland ever joining the EU, or even deepening its many agreements with that body:
The SVP is sceptical about Switzerland's many bilateral agreements with the EU, telling voters that the country is better off remaining outside the 28-nation bloc. (snip)
The SVP spearheaded the Swiss drive to impose immigration quotas, which got the green light in a February 2014 referendum. But it contradicts the EU's freedom of movement principle, which Switzerland had earlier agreed to respect.
The EU has until January 2017 to resolve the dispute with Switzerland - after that the Swiss government must make the quotas law.

We don’t need no stinking EU.
Switzerland is not an EU country.
The EU countries are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
The SVP and FDP won on the key issue driving Trump’s popularity. Listen up Liberals!
It drives power to Conservatives — who can’t, or won’t do anything, because they sit atop a huge, indebted, leftist/socialist apparatus.
Doing anything would mean dismantling the whole system.
Switzerland is not an EU country.
I know that. See this line in the story?
“The election is also dampening the possibility of Switzerland ever joining the EU, or even deepening its many agreements with that body:
Now repeat after me. We don’t need no stinking EU.
I need to learn more about some of these countrie politics, but what I habe learned so far in Europe “extreme right wing” generally means extreme left wing here, but does not like turd world invasions, and they only apply the right wing label because they have trained their entire society to reflexively belive right wing at best stupid and at worst evil
At this point, immigration is the ONLY issue that matters, the rest is just noise.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ARMY OF FIVE MILLION MOSLEMS INVADE SWITZERLAND?
Every armed Swiss citizen will fire five shots and go home!
(Old joke about Switzerland’s army and Nazi Germany’s army)
Good. Now if France, Germany and Italy would elect someone who would kick the savages out, there would be hope for Europe.
It will happen none the less, with or without them...
Watch and see, the edifices are cracking around the World...
Yes!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. Fully agreed.
‘Dismantling the whole system’ would mean taking the initiative, and ‘blame’, where no spine nor ideals exists.
They can’t, or won’t, pontificate on the ideas of Freedom and Liberty; you expect them to rock the boat THAT much??
Suggest: Having a Revolver for close quarters combat and a high powered scope rifle for long range combat. Optional Mid range assault rifle.
