Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump lashed back at Gov. John Kasich of Ohio by saying fracking is the only thing that saved his state's economy.
"He got lucky with fracking," said Trump, responding to Kasich's tirade of criticisms of his rivals' tax plans, including Trump's at Wednesday night's CNBC debate.
Trump fired back at Kasich's economic record with fracking as the "only reason Ohio is doing well."
Kasich responded that Ohio has a growing energy sector, but "we are diversified."
"We came back from the dead" but energy is just one item, he said. "We are diversified."
Ohio sits on portions of two major shale gas formations: the Marcellus and Utica shale regions. Fracking injects water and sand underground to extract natural gas and oil from shale rock miles underground.

Desperate to break out, I’d say - and now I’ll predict he’s out by Thanksgiving. The money isn’t going to be there for him. And I like the guy - for Gov. of Ohio.
Kasich looked like tonight’s designated Trump killer.
Who’s next?
“Kasich looked like tonightâs designated Trump killer.
Whoâs next?”
NBC tried to help Kasich but he failed big time. He needs to drop out along with about 5 others.
Take a hike, Mr. MediKasich.
“Whats wrong with Kasich?”
He’s still in the race. He needs to drop out along with Rand Paul, Huck and Jeb.
Trump took Kasich to the woodshed over Lehman Bros Fiasco where Kasich had a very high position. Lehman was the catalyst for the financial debacle of 2008.
Whatever happened to that hugely crowded thread on FR where Cruz was supposed to show his policy differences with Trump? Today, Cruz actually attacked the moderators for attacking Trump.
Trump was awesome in that exchange. I didn’t even know Kasich sat on the board of Lehman Bros.
Kasich looked like tonightâs designated Trump’s “You are fired! Leave Now! “
Whoâs next?
I need to ask, what was wrong with Trump tonight? I love Donald but I want to see him break out, like Reagan did. Trump needs to study the issues and clearly articulate the issues. He just doesn’t come across as very intelligent when it comes to politics.
[I need to ask, what was wrong with Trump tonight?...He just doesnât come across as very intelligent when it comes to politics.]
I believe you answered your own question. Trump is not a politician. He is not going to “sound” like the rest of the candidates who have talking points.
People like Trump the way he is. He did good tonight, IMHO.
Could that be because he isn’t a politician? Most of the others have or have had access to numbers, policies, etc. He is doing well and will surround himself with competent people - you can trust that. What he doesn’t know - he will quickly learn. He is intelligent, but doesn’t talk like an elitist. You don’t become a multi-billionaire by being stupid.
I like that he isn’t a politician. I was surprised today to hear others supporting him (in real life) so enthusiastically. The workers in the doctor’s office, in the check out line at the grocery store, etc.
Hopefully, the majority of republican voters are fed up and support him.
He is holding his fire. He’ll open up with cannister at point blank range. When it is time.
He's a gope shill, just an emotional basket case and someone who needs to drop out.
Indeed!
You signed up less than a week ago...
....and now you sayTrump ‘doesn’t seem very intelligent’
I’ve got my eye on you
Let’s see what other posts you have in store.
“... where Kasich had a very high position ...
Kasich denied Trump’s assertion. I’d like to know who’s correct.
It is apparent that Trump is far smarter than you are.
He is running for POTUS and you are just running off your big snarky mouth on the internet, n00b.
I detect a slight odor.
