Latest polls point to one dominant Republican candidate

Every pundit who said the terrorist violence in Paris would dramatically shake up the race for the Republican presidential nomination, at least for now, appears to have gotten it backwards. Here's the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll.

1. Donald Trump: 32% (unchanged since October)

2. Ben Carson: 22% (unchanged)

3. Marco Rubio: 11% (up one point)

4. Ted Cruz: 8% (up two points)

5. Jeb Bush: 6% (down one point)

When it comes to dealing with the threat of terrorism, roughly 4 in 10 Republican voters believe the New York land developer is the most reliable candidate in the GOP field. The latest national Fox News poll points in a very similar direction:

1. Donald Trump: 28% (up two points since early November)

2. Ben Carson: 18% (down five points)

3. Ted Cruz: 14% (up three points)

3. Marco Rubio: 14% (up three points)

5. Jeb Bush: 5% (up one point)

Note, Trump's 28% backing is the best any candidate has fared in any national Fox poll so far this year; Carson's five-point slide is the worst of his candidacy; and Cruz and Rubio combined only tie Trump.

If you're inclined to look past national trends and focus more on polling from the early nominating states, take a look at the striking new Boston Globe/Suffolk poll of New Hampshire Republicans:

1. Donald Trump: 22%

2. Marco Rubio: 11%

3. Ben Carson: 10%

4. Ted Cruz: 9%

4. John Kasich: 9%

6. Jeb Bush: 8%

The key takeaway isn't just Trump's sizable lead at this point in the race. Rather, note that the New Yorker is ahead, not despite voters' concerns about national security, but because of those concerns.

Is it just me or do I sense MSNBC or one of the "NBCs", have been giving Trump a fair deal lately?

They erroneously think Trump will be easy for Hillary to take down.

“They erroneously think Trump will be easy for Hillary to take down.”

The same fools who thought Trump would have been long gone by now, due to falling approval ratings : )

They have done a ton of research by now and probably have all kinds of dirt on him.

They think that will do him in. I think they’ll discover that he does research, too.

The bottom line will end up being he has built a financial empire and Hillary has done nothing.

So, if Carson were to drop out (not saying is going to at this point), to whom would the majority of those votes go? I have no idea at this point.

The polls are not the race. Don’t put too much stock in the polls. No one is “ahead.” No one is “winning.”

“Trump would crucify Hillary.”

He is already firing shots across her bow with his tweet about her being good at corruption.

The Donald doesn’t play nice like the GOP-e

It gets down to effectiveness. Whose reputation is built on words and whose is built on actual projects completed?

Trump in a landslide.

Carson votes are a bit of an enigma, but I would split them between Cruz (religious) and Establishment (they’ve been choosing Carson as an operation to unseat Trump).

He’s the only one with a megaphone who is saying that Hillary should be in prison.

The more he repeats that, the more people will listen

This is amazingly accurate. Better than anything NRO or the slimy GOPe bloggers and Twitterers say.

Er, yeah. The polls are usually right. There are exceptions like KY, but not this many polls in this many states. It’s universal. Trump is even back up in IA.
