As Ted Cruz becomes an ever present threat to his lead in Iowa, Donald Trump is trying several new attack lines against the senator from Texas.

'I don't think he's qualified to be president,' Trump said on Fox News Sunday.

When pressed by host Chris Wallace, Trump explained that Cruz – known for his bullish behavior in Washington – didn't have the right 'temperament' to be commander in chief.

'When you look at the way he's dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like, frankly, a little bit like a maniac – you're never going to get things done that way,' Trump said.

...

On Fox, where Trump took a tougher tone, he used Cruz's Washington reputation against the senator.

'You can't walk into the Senate and scream and call people liars and not be able to cajole and get along with people,' Trump said. 'Liar,' is what Cruz branded Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in July during a fiery floor speech.

'He'll never get anything done and that's the problem with Ted,' Trump added.

Sitting down with CNN's Jake Tapper, Trump talked about having a cordial relationship with Cruz.

'He's been so nice to me,' Trump gushed. 'I mean, I would say anything and he said, "I agree, I agree."'

'But I think the time will come to an end pretty soon, it sounds like,' Trump added.

I kinda wish Trump would pull some punches here. Cruz is his best choice for a running mate.

Did I hear that Trump actually described himself as an evangelical Christian? Did he say it with a straight face?

Ted had the courage to stand up to the elites, pretty much by himself, before you ever did . . . just like you said, DT, you WERE Establishment a few months ago.

It would be hilarious if this ‘argument’ was cooked up to lure the MSM into a trap in the next debate - get em all excited about whipping up a brouhaha only to have Trump and Cruz defer & kick their asses on national TV again.

Well to be honest, Cruz really has very little experience. He’s been in the senate for what, all of two years. and in that short time he has made the huge mistakes of voting for the corker bill and TPA. I think Cruz needs another 10 to 15 years before he’ll have the experience needed. JMHO.

Trump and Cruz are (both) pulling punches so far.

I suppose we will see whether the two of them mix it up tomorrow, but I suspect part of what we’re seeing the the media trying to instigate something then, for them.

:D

Trump should stop making statement that are “democrat” in nature. For example, his open support for Affirmative Action and bad-mouthing Scalia.

Mr. Trump was a strong supporter of the Kelo decission which makes him NOT my first pic.

he is fun, I love that he plays the media but at the end of the day he is a great showman but not one that I want running the show. (still will vote for him over and Democrat)

Trump won’t get anything done if he’s elected because the media and the political correctness firewall will stop him at every turn. Trump tares those walls down in my opinion. That is a more cultural shift that is needed and I think that is why Trump is useful this time around. Policy wise Cruz is the a better pick but unless and until those firewalls are torn asunder his policies won’t get implemented. I would say Trump is necessary this time around to make a Cruz Presidency truly valuable. Trump has respect for Cruz, it’s clear to me because he is really holding back and doesn’t really have much bad to say about him other than standard attacks

Donny being Donny. But if he were wise, he would not be alienating conservatives, since—if by some miracle he gets the nomination—he would need their support, even if they need to hold their noses while pulling the lever.

They both have downsides, IMO. Cruz is a wimp for not endorsing the Trump plan to keep out and contain the Muslim animals, while Trump does not seem like the person who will end up slitting the throat of the government behemoth.

But both candidates have plenty of strengths as well, and if neither one becomes President, our country shall surely perish.

They should really be focusing on bringing down the Hitlerbeast and Rube-o before tearing into each other. Make sure a conservative wins first, THEN tear into each other.

'Liar,' is what Cruz branded Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in July during a fiery floor speech

Mr. Trump needs to realize that one big reason that he is leading in the polls is exactly because McConnell is a liar; the voters are tired of the GOP establishment lies and want some honesty.

This is NOT a good line of attack for Trump.

That’s the way I see it as well. A lot of purests on FR don’t grasp that. Trump is valuable for one goal- resolving the immigration issue.

Trump wants the push pollsters back on his side. So Trump bad mouths Scalia, takes the side of McConnell against Cruz and waits for the latest Big Media CNN and Reuters push polls to come in.

Seriously...

Just keep playing “rope-a-dope,” Ted.

Then strike when the timing is right.
