You’d think that would work to Cruz’s advantage.
But by making immigration the keystone of his campaign Trump has generated more confidence that he will do as he says. A president can’t renege on his keystone promise.
He’d end up like ‘read my lips’ Bush, ineffectual and powerless.
Cruz would help himself by being more forthcoming in these interviews too.
He sounds like a lawyer holding on to a loophole.
Some don't want to get the facts straight. I don't know what it is. But they will ignore their candidate wanting to "expedite" them back.
And others will justify it as not being amnesty.
Nevermind that similar touchback amnesties were washed out here eight or nine years about when Mike Pence proposed one and when KB Hutchinson proposed one.
They forget that Trump only promised deportations for the non criminals starting in late July. And even when he finally said deportations, he also says that he wants to expedite them back in his next breath.
General election match ups are meaningless this early without winning nomination first. We will know who is the likely nominee on March 15th. Ping me on March 16th.
I've never seen Trump use the words that they should get in line. Please post link.
I've only seen him use the words that they should be expedited back.
“How come Trump wants to allow these lawbreakers back into the country?”
This summer, during a Megyn Kelly interview, Cruz refused to say the would deport illegals.
Also, Trump described the ones he would allow back in, and he mentioned mostly those who have college degrees. That would prevent 99% of the illegals returning. I am puzzled, I thought Cruz was ALWAYS, AGONIZINGLY honest. Not with that.
Cruz and others were supporting building the wall when Trump was still criticizing Romney for being too hard on the illegals... (2012) Here is an excerpt from an article written in 2012:
"Cruz, a lawyer who was solicitor general of Texas from 2003 to 2008, combines a compelling personal biography with philosophically pure conservatism. He won his Senate primary in an upset, earlier this year, partly by adhering to the secure-the-borders mentality popular with most Texas Republicans. He promised to triple the size of the U.S. Border Patrol and to build a larger border wall than his opponent proposed."
From another article in the Texas Tribune in 2012:
"Cruz supports building a wall along the entire U.S.-Mexico border."
"Cruz has said he supports mandating that businesses use E-Verify, an electronic program that verifies whether someone is allowed to legally work in the U.S."
In 2012, Politifact stated:
"We didn't have to look far. In a transcribed interview with blogger Sonja Harris of Conservatives in Action that Cruz has on his campaign website, the candidate says: "I do not support the DREAM Act and categorically oppose amnesty. I categorically oppose amnesty, and I strongly support legal immigration for those that have followed the rules and come here to pursue the American dream."
All of this effort by other campaigns trying to make Cruz look weak on immigration is silly. NumbersUSA has never given Cruz anything lower than a 'A' rating, with an 'A+' rating for his overall career.
Good interview, shows Ted’s strengths. Maybe in 2011 there were no hostile “the 11 million in the country, will you deport them” questions... I didn’t hear it addressed in this interview.
Oh, NOW he won’t let deported immigrants return, now that The Donald has raised hundreds of thousands of cheering fans from all around the country for the idea of — finally — curbing illegal immigration. Thanks for clarifying that, Ted.
If you enforce the law, wall + everify strictly enforced against employers and employees + no benefits for illegals.
You won’t have to deport most they will leave of their own accord.
Cruz has also said the legal immigration should be tied to the number of unemployed Americans.
No Trump did not say expedite them back. I am willing to vote for the best vsndidate and after pro-lfe issues too many immigrants of all types is destructive and top on list.
Yes. Cruz is sly mouthed about trade and immgration
It’s frustrating: I don’t see that he HAS to be that way.
I wanna tell him: ‘loosen up Francis’.
He is soooo smart. And sooo much the lawyer. But he is young, inexperienced and falls for ideas that are destructive
Then he parses his flip flops in lawyerese rather than own up to error. then seems slimy.
Is that any better than me telling you that Trump was a Democrat, supported the Clintons, was in favor of Kelo, etc?
Bringing up Cruz’s citizenship, not once, but twice, in the last two days?
Both are flawed, none are perfect.
...and why is Goldman Sachs seen as evil lately?
I have heard this over and over again.
Aren’t we capitalist, or was their some major scandal I hadn’t heard about?
Is this about the bailout? I didn’t agree with the bailout.
I would agree to vote for Trump, if he becomes the nominee, would you do the same if Cruz becomes the nominee?BTW, the GOPe doesn’t like either one of these guys.
Yes he did. Look it up.
