Trump will 'definitely not' participate in Fox debate, campaign says

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he will not attend a debate scheduled for Thursday night in Des Moines, an unexpected twist just days before voters here launch the election process.

"I probably won't be doing the debate. I'm going to have something else in Iowa," he said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After the press conference, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed to The Washington Post that Trump would "definitely not" participate in Thursday's Fox News debate.

"He's definitely not participating in the Fox News debate," Lewandowski said. "His word is his bond."

He said Trump would remain in Iowa as planned and would instead host an event in the state to raise money for wounded warriors and other veterans groups.

Trump has made such threats before, but he said that the Fox News Channel, which is hosting the debate Thursday night, had gone too far by issuing press statements on Tuesday that he said mocked his concern about Megyn Kelly, one of the debate co-moderators.

"They're dealing with someone who's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he added.

When Trump saw the press release from Fox, "I said, 'Bye bye,'" he said.

Trump said his event on Thursday will benefit military veterans and service members wounded in war.

It appears that way.

But, I don’t know who these people are .. so it’s hard to tell exactly what their motives are for interviewing the candidates.

And .. FNC had stacked the deck with a couple of Muslims who were going to participate in interviewing the candidates.

When Trump found out what they planned to do, he decided it was a trap and he was not going to participate.

Smart man.

Don’t worry, Trump can still run the table .. even if he loses Iowa.

I’m not concerned about that.

This might actually affect his poll numbers negatively.

Boy.. are you and many, many others in for a BIG surprise.

This will bolster his numbers even more. Watch and see.

Fox will have advertisers pulling out during these last two days because NO Trump means NO meaningful ratings.

If an advertiser doesn't pull out they will want a greatly reduced rate dues to the heavy drop in viewership numbers.

It will COST Fox.. NOT Trump.

Mock me if you want.. but it will happen.

I saw your picture post #18 of Megyn Kelly sucking on that bottle.

Was she looking at Brit Hume while doing that?

What convoluted reasoning. There is no way Trump, Rubio or any other candidate would get a pass no that dishonest crap. Sounds like the visa that he wanted increased by 500 % but said he opposes the amnesty bill. Way too convoluted to the point of...

Some significant events have taken place since the last debate. I would have liked to hear how Trump would have handled things differently from Obama and what he’d do if similar situations occurred on his watch.

And you have confidence that you would hear ANY of that during this Fox clown show? Did you hear much of that kind of talk during the previous 5 sideshows? I sure didn't. I heard questions like, "Why did you say mean things about Rosie O'Donnell".

This debate process is a joke. I'm actually not a huge fan of Trump. But, I think he has, once again, tapped into the mood of the public with this very public rebuke of the process.

This guy is smarter than anyone in the field. He's running circles around all of them. He scares me to death.

I agree with you. Trump won't be hurt. He'll get a boost from this. All the other candidates will be attacking Trump, saying stupid things, and hurting themselves. Meanwhile, Donald looks like the man in charge.

To me, this is akin to Reagan firing the Air Traffic controllers. Trump gets to show that he means business... and, no one has to lose their job in the process. Except perhaps, Megan?

“Why do you want a Jimmy Carter type president?”

Exactly who are you referring to here that has this trait that I desire as President?

Can you name this person please?

I damn sure did.

Yes, I did hear substantive questions.

I sure didn't.

I submit that you weren't paying attention. The transcripts are out there for your review.
