Help me out here. The grammar instruction I received years ago taught me that it is correct to use the masculine gender when the sex of the person is unknown.
By the way, gender refers to grammar and not human sex.
In a related dilemma over public restrooms, there should be three restrooms, male, female, and transgender. It is the best practical solutions.
