Somehow, I think that Chucky hasn’t ever sat in an airline economy seat in DECADES.
Yes.
Another commie Marxist Senator heard from. When did the RAT Party go so far left off the cliff? Did this all start in the 1960’s Viet Nam era?
Why don’t we just turn everything to the government? Get it over with in one swoop.
It’s Sunday, so Chuckie must have found a camera again....
If only every day was the Sabbath, this little RAT wouldn’t be thinking of a way to regulate something the government has no business regulating.
Start regulating seat pitch, upChuck, then get ready for another airline bailout.
If people weren’t so willing to put up with crap from the airlines and the TSA just to go see Aunt Fannie, things would not have gotten this far.
Boycott the airlines and send a message to the corporate scum that run them.
Seat size is determined by the rule that you must be able to evacuate the aircraft in an emergency within 90 seconds.
I don’t blame Schumer for being so paternalistic - it’s in his DNA and we all know it. What’s scarier to me is how easy it is to see the GOPe allowing this nanny state crap to pass. Or MarioRoboto campaigning on it telling us all it’s a conservative measure.
I flew to Australia back in december, 6 hours on the 737, 10 hours on the 787. And coming back on an Airbus A320 to Honolulu, andcthen the Alaska 737 to Anchorage.
Worst was the 737, and it was actually a newer 737-800, almost no padding, minimal entertainment, just a bag of crunchies. And the 737 bounces around a lot.
The 787 Dreamliner was nice, much better air conditioning, higher cabin pressure, good seat back entertainment, seats are decent.
Hawaiian had the A320, best service by far, best food, best seats. Best i have ever seen overall for the money thats not First Class.
Another thoughtful idea from the wellspring that is the world’s greatest deliberative body. /sarc
Between the tiny seats, frequently canceled flights, and getting poked, prodded, and generally felt up before I can board, I have made the decision not to fly on any trip shorter than 2000 miles.
Screw the TSA. Screw the airlines. I hope they all go out of business.
Just flew a 4 hour flight to LA in economy ... I was waiting for them to start filling the plane with olive oil and some seasoning it was so tight! The “cherry” on top of my experience was being greeted by a Muslim passenger next to me. He was reading passages from his Koran for the entire flight. Lovely experience... I thought I was back in Pakistan.
If the airlines don’t make flying in standard coach seats as miserable as possible then how can they justify charging more for upgraded seating?
It is a comfort issue but that is for the free market to determine. Those who don’t like the seating in coach can pay to sit in first class or charter a private jet. If there is a enough demand for more comfortable seating in economy class the free market will provide it. This is the standard conservative free market “solution” which ignores completely the safety issue.
There is a real safety issue with respect to the size of seating today. How many minutes would it take to evacuate a fully loaded plane on fire assuming the aircraft was on the ground? An aircraft with 16” of legroom is going to take longer than one with 23” of legroom. Unfortunately, the “free market” is not going to take into account passenger safety. When it comes to safety in transportation, history shows us the private sector will not address safety issues until government regulation occurs, no matter how many citizens are killed or maimed.
As someone who has survived a plane crash, and has evacuated a plane on the ground after a crash through an emergency exit, I know first hand both seconds and space count. I am also aware of the chaos and frantic behavior of passengers trying to escape a crowded aircraft which is only exacerbated when they feel trapped.
After that experience in the late 1990’s I became much more concerned about aircraft seating, particularly the shrinking distance between seats. Whenever possible I book exit row seating, but those are limited in number and it is not always possible to sit in or near an exit row.
While my general inclination is to look for the free market to provide solutions, in this case the profit motive drives the airlines to favor additional revenue over passenger safety. The only way the safety issue for those unable to afford private planes or first class seating will be addressed is through government regulation.
Someday, there will be an aircraft fire on the runway in which hundreds of passengers are killed because the tightness of the seating prevents them from exiting quickly. How many lives will it take before either the market or the government addresses the safety issue?
Eat shi’ite Chucky
Yeah!
And they should regulate foot room and head room. And pillows. And more restrooms. And the number of peanuts in each bag. And snoring of other passengers who fall asleep. And kids. And the movies on long flights.
On the other hand, the Senate could try to do some really useful, like force cable companies to get rid of tiers and allow channel selections to be ala carte, with online selections and deselections. That should not be difficult to do in this age of the Internet.
There is nothing like a free market in air-travel. I and most others would gladly pay 10-20% more for a ticket for a 10-20% larger seat. Airlines do not give you that option. Sure they charge for upgraded seats - when the seats are available.
I fly a fair bit, but rarely in first class. Flying reminds me of transport by cattle truck and TSA makes it so much more time consuming. Older white guys with blue eyes should not be forced into the one size fits all terrorists. We all know the profile of a terrorist.
Since the government is replacing Americans with midgets from Latin America, if Chuck just waits, soon we could fit entire families in the seats.
It’s time to regulate these holier than though senators to term limits.
