Thousands Sign Petition to Allow Guns at RNC Convention
Breitbart ^ | 03/25/16 | AWR Hawkins

Thousands of individuals have signed an online petition seeking to nudge Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) into allowing concealed carry firearms into the Republican National Committee Convention in Cleveland.

The convention will be held in Quicken Loans Arena, which currently bars guns from the premises.

The petition–which can be found at Change.Org–calls on Quicken Loans Arena to suspend “their policy preventing the open carry of firearms on the premises of the arena from July 18-21, 2016 to coincide with the Republican National Convention.” The petition also asks the NRA to join the fray by issuing “an immediate condemnation of the egregious affront to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution constituted by the ‘gun-free zone’ loophole to the state law.”

Fox 5 reports the petition describes the gun-free policy as “a direct affront to the Second Amendment,” and claims the gun-free approach “puts all attendees at risk.” The authors of the petition are calling on Governor Kasich to use executive authority to allow guns at the convention.

It should be noted that Change.Org hosts a hotbed of activity for gun control proponents launching various petitions to secure more gun control at the federal and state level. For example, there was a petition seeking more federal control in the wake of the October 1 Umpqua Community College attack and another seeking more federal gun control because of Chicago gun crime. And there have been numerous other gun control petitions at Change.Org in addition to these.

A potential problem?

Might this give infiltrating anti-2As a major forum to go ... um ... weird? (Showy and ostentatious displays, etc.)

At the very least, it would be a distraction.

And, one suspects that armed security would be numerous and sufficient.

I doubt that the Secret Service detail around Trump would be happy about that.

It’s a MAK90. A Chinese AK 47 made by Norinco, an arms manufacturer owned by the Chinese government. The stamped receiver version sells for about $900.00. The milled received version is $1,250 plus. The only way it could be imported was with the wood thumbhole stock. Its a very reliable AK. It’s no longer imported. The stamped version could be bought for about $200-$250.00 in the early- mid 90s. Good investments for those who bought them then.

Nope, SKS.

The charging handle is flush with the top of the receiver.

An excellent idea. Let the NRA welcome open carriers with open arms, and ask them to carry their prettiest pistols in their best holsters.

It would be a great way to distance the Republicans from the Democrats in a year where Hillary is pushing for more infringements on the Second Amendment.

And would make the open carriers brand us all as fools.

Elections are not decided by the hard right nor the hard left. Their votes are already decided.

Elections are decided by the 12% +/- swing voters, and the sight of people openly carrying firearms would scare the hell out of them.

Sure, protect a “Constitutional Right”... and hand the election to the Dems.

P.S. Are you also ready for 2000 hard leftists in Islamic Jihadist garb with AKs in the streets of Columbis? Legal for us, legal for them.

They already have the right to open carry, if they are legal residents of Ohio.

I disagree with your analysis. It is often put out there, without any substance, by people who dislike open carrying.

There are a lot of people who want to see the Second Amendment supported. There are about 100 million gun owners in the United States.

Many are disgusted with the Republicans going for the squishy middle.

Romney won the independents and lost the election.

Not a snowball’s chance in the hot stinky bad place. The entire event has been declared a special security zone by the Feds. The Secret Service is in charge of security at the convention. There will be no guns allowed other than by LEO’s working security.

If you disagree with my analysis, pick up your rifle, and walk downtown in any major city with that rifle openly and clearly displayed.

Then watch people’s reactions; their faces. You will not see warmth, agreement and acceptance. You will see fear, loathing and people reaching for their cell phones to call 911.

Yes, it is a constitutional right. So is picking your nose and eating the snot in front of your boss’s boss’s wife.

Neither is smart.

PS, Romney lost, in part, because Crybaby Conservatives thought he wasn’t “conservative enough” and handed the election to Obama.

If you think any number of delegates to the convention will be carrying rifles after being asked to carry only holstered handguns, you are not dealing in reality.

So leave the long-gun at home and walk downtown, to the supermarket, to the movies, past a school, with an easilly seen holstered handgun and watch the reaction.

Tell me how much extra respect for your positions and thought process you generate, vs the openly displayed fear, disdain and panic... and 911 calls.

If somehow you think voters at home watching the convention on TV will be better impressed with attendees, delegates, spectators because they are “only” openly carrying handguns in pretty holsters, then I rest my case about the lack of common sense on this issue.

I have done it often. No problem. I was stopped a decade or more ago. The officers and I agreed that it was probably a visiting Canadian “winter visitor” that called it in.

Most people do not even notice. Those that do, more often than not, approve.

You will be hard pressed to get 5% to open carry, if you push. Enough to make the point, and that is about it.
