If Trump does not get the magic 1237 on the first ballot, then he is not going to win the nomination. He has done nothing to secure delegates that are loyal to him regardless of how they are required to vote on ballot one.

Cruz will never be able to wash off the Beck stench.

On spite, Trump should pick someone with less delegates than Cruz has for VP. He should in fact pick Carson since Cruz screwed him in Iowa. The GOP would have a hard time stealing the election with a decent, conservative African American on the ticket.

“Lord noted that the “Harry Truman values” Reagan endorsed included single-payer health care.”

Lord was referring to Reagan’s endorsement of Harry Truman in the 1948 race when Truman was advocating single payer health care.

By the time Reagan was supporting Goldwater 16 years later Reagan had changed his mind substantially.

Lord’s point is that those who denounce Trump for his past are selective in how they apply that standard.

Cruz brings zero benefit to Trump. Ain’t gonna happen.

I hoped for a Trump/Cruz ticket six months ago. Now I don’t want that Cuban-Canadian snake anywhere near the ticket.

No, Cruz is LBJ on steroids. Trump needs to stay far, far away from him.

Jeffery Lord is a liberal, GOPe insider, globalist piece of dirt bag!

It's always better to keep quiet and let people assume you're a fool than to post this kind of drivel and remove all doubt!

Do you think honestly that if trump goes in with 1200 (very likely). They are going to give it to Cruz with 589? Really? I just can’t imagine that.

There are no governors who would be acceptable to Trump voters.

You are just plain wrong. There are a few I would gladly accept.

And who exactly is Cruz going to select as his VP candidate?

Cruz wins on second ballot. Doesn’t need Trump. Trump needs Cruz.

That said, if Trump gets more popular votes and delegates, it make a lot more sense for a Trump/Cruz 2016 ticket, with Cruz 2020.

Wouldn't that mean Cruz running against Trump in the primaries in 2020?

I doubt... seriously doubt it will happen, but it should happen. It is a good idea. Many Presidential nominees pick a VP that will "balance" the ticket.

A young New England Catholic Kennedy picked an old Southern WASP Johnson. A Conservative Ronald Reagan picked a moderate Washington insider in GHW Bush for GOPe support. McCain tried to balance the ticket by putting a conservative on as VP, and I voted for her trying to ignore him at the same time. Inexperienced Oboma put someone on that could brag of decades of experience, GW Bush did the same.

If Trump gets the nomination, he needs to put a Conservative on the ticket to balance it out.

"This reminds me of 1980, when both Reagan and G.H.W. Bush fought each other and they both ended up being becoming President and Vice President."

right.

even back then the GOPe Reagan had to agree to taking on GHWB as VP to get the nomination.

of course GHWB was only one stray hinkley bullet away from becoming president

That would not be balancing the ticket even if “Lyin’ Ted” would do it. In short it ain’t gonna happen. I also suspect Little Marco would say no. I have a feeling the only other candidate who would consider doing it would be Christie. But apparently they’ve decided otherwise because he was not even on Trumps list. Maybe Ugly Carly will do it.

I hate to tell Jeffrey that ship has likely sailed. I would speculate that Trump truly can’t stand the guy at this point and he does not need the eligibility challenge the DNC will put up if Cruz is on the ticket. Kasich can likely DC?over the few extra delegates Trump might need to win on the first ballot and he’s acceptable to the party.
