Egypt Sends Robot Submarine to Hunt for EgyptAir Jet

Egypt deployed a robot submarine on Sunday to hunt for the EgyptAir plane that crashed in deep Mediterranean waters, President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said, warning investigations into the disaster would take time.

In his first public remarks on Thursday's crash of the Airbus 320 jet, which killed all 66 people on board, Sisi also said all possible scenarios were still being considered and cautioned against rushing to conclusions.

“Search equipment has moved today from the oil ministry, they have a submarine that can reach 3,000 meters under water,” he told assembled ministers and members of parliament at the opening of a fertilizer plant in the port city of Damietta.

Will it be confronted by Israeli robot sharks?

They better hurry. I believe the planes “black box” sonar pingers only run for 30 days on their internal batteries.

Seems like we could come up with a better technology to locate these black boxes. I believe the signal from the boxes only has a range of a few miles and the battery runs out.

Egyptian el-Sisi is no nonsense he'll get to the bottom of it no matter what it takes, he's against isis/isl, jihadists, brotherhoods. AF447’s black box wasn't found until 2 years later, what they concluded initially as cause of crash based upon ACARS, the FDR only concurred whatever they yielded in the ACARS. So ACARS is good enough. Even if ELT's battery run out, the SONAR can pinpoint any metalic object in the ocean floor, having so called better technology to find the FDR is irrelevant.

Ever wonder why they dump radioactive waste in pools of water?

It's not because of the pretty blue glow.

It's because water is a much better shield than air.

Oh great, now we’ll have to start looking for a sub too.

They spend a lot of time and resources collecting debris and looking for black boxes to find the root cause. Every crash is different, and SONAR has limitations. I don’t know what kind of signal is emitted by the boxes. I thought it was a high frequency ping. Maybe a different kind of signal that penetrates water and earth, and can provide directional homing.

I would think that a US or Israeli sub has located the area the black box is in due to the pinging underwater and given the location to the Egyptians.

Now, the Egyptians at least know where to deploy their robot sub to start the search.

It will still be a daunting task due to the 9,000+ ft. depth.

It took 2 years to find the Air France AF447 A330 black box but just to concur what the AF447 air crash team of investigators' initial findings and what should have been done to have prevented the crash.

MS804 didn't crash in the Soviet's controlled water and even KL007 black box was recovered after the cold war. I'm positive they'll find the MS804 black box.
