The 2016 presidential election is unfolding like a Greek tragedy. With a few changes.
A tragic hero, burdened by a fatal flaw, inexorably strides toward destruction; unstoppable, resolute and impervious to those who beg him to change. Thus proceeds the Donald.
I hasten to stipulate that the word hero is hard to apply. We commonly associate the word with bravery, intelligence and vision. With Trump, not so much.
But the past week has shown us a leader, and a leader he is, with a fatal flaw: an inability to adjust his character to reality. His campaign is one of personal insult, ethnic divisiveness and blatant disregard for the norms of political discourse. On the one hand, this is what got him the nomination. On the other hand it cannot possibly broaden his appeal to undecided voters. Those who already support him find it comforting. Those who need persuasion to vote for him will be repelled. It will destroy him.

But, it looks like Trump has not done as well as he could have in the last week.
How many Obituaries have they written already?
“I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around”
Liberals write lots of them - the smartest people in the room are snickering that he will lose.
He might. But what if he makes them look like fools again?
Trump’s hit his peak again.
a fatal flaw: an inability to adjust his character to reality.
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” George Bernard Shaw
“On the other hand it cannot possibly broaden his appeal to undecided voters.”
Sure. He cannot possibly win the republican nomination either /s
The fault lines on immigration are not between democrats and republicans. They are between the elites and the people according to all the polls.
Trump is coming for Hillary of Troy.
Again.
Gosh, I’m really impressed with Brodsky’s thoughts.
Usually, you’d have to read a ten year old girl’s diary to find this kind of self-absorbed writing.
Come, Richard, do share your battered soul with us.
“But I’m getting older too”
This sounds exactly like the conventional wisdom in the primaries.
Huffington Post political writers ASSISTING Trump in his effort to get elected, huh.
How nice.
The short version:
“Trump is doomed. For real this time. Doomed!!!”
Trump refuses to bend to the rules of political correctness.
In Brodsky, in the MSM, Democrats and establishment Republicans, he has made all the right enemies.
He doesn’t obsess about them.
Me too! Trump will win in a landslide and will have long coattails.
“Bravery, intelligence and vision” describes Trump very well.
This is a fire up the base, reality isn’t important kind of article.
Trump is going to drop in the polls. Nobody cares about this stuff until September.
What has to be scaring the hell out of the Hillary campaign is that she seems to have a ceiling around 45% of the vote and the Libertarian candidate is more likely going to draw from the Ds instead of the Rs this time around.
Don’t let this kind of crap scare you. They only have two tactics this time around ... generating a new social issue that fewer and fewer are going to care about as well as demoralization. I can honestly see the media making a full court press to try and get yellowbellies in the RNC to “regret” Trump.
Trump only has to spend the summer doing two things. One is preparing for debates against the Pantsuit Pig. The other is doing what he’s best at ... campaigning.
One other thing to keep in mind. The media is going to paint Trump in all sorts of irrational colors. If he simply performs good during the debates ... good, not great ... all of the media slime will backfire.
With only a little bit of luck, Clinton will go down in history as the POTUS candidate that marked the end of late 1960s leftist radical ideology ... should Trump deliver on his promises, it’ll mark the beginning of a resurgence in the USA.
