Charlotte Convention Center
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) Hillary Clinton laid out her approach to national security and made her case for why she should be the next president to thousands of veterans in Charlotte Monday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention.
Clinton acknowledged in her speech that that many veterans feel invisible and powerless. She also referenced many of the things Donald Trump has said on the campaign trail about the military and Americas role in the world.
You will never hear me say that I only listen to myself on national security, Clinton said while telling the crowd how shed approach her role leading the worlds largest military.
One thing for certain you will not ever hear from me is praise for dictators and strong men who have no love for America, she added.
Those were just two of several references Clinton made to things Donald Trump has said, though she never mentioned him by name.
While talking about her work with Sen. John McCain, who was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, she brought up a statement Trump made earlier in the campaign when he said of McCains time as POW, Hes a war hero because he was captured? I like people that werent captured.
Clinton told the veterans that she believes [Sen. McCain] and all other prisoners of war are heroes and deserve the respect that that entails.
Republicans have questioned her judgement in light of the scandal surrounding her email use while Secretary of State.
I think those veterans are going to have some very difficult questions for Mrs. Clinton on her record on national security, on her record on Benghazi, said N.C. GOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse.
Clinton touched on issues close to many veterans such as reforming the VA and veteran homelessness. That kind of talk reassured her supporters who were in attendance.
Look how long shes been in politics. Shes experienced. Im looking forward to her being the next commander in chief, said Joyce Rochester, from Fayetteville.
Not everyone agreed.
I dont really think she cares about us veterans as much as she says she does, said Chad Cheras, a veteran from Massachusetts.
Our tougher stance on national security will resonate more, Woodhouse said.
Many veterans CBS North Carolina spoke to said they had already made up their minds on how theyre voting.
Thomas Hanzes said he was undecided and he wants to hear a different tone from Trump.
I think he has to be a little more compassionate, a little more sensitive to the issues that everyday veterans and everyday people face, he said.
Some veterans at the convention said theyre tired of pledges and empty promises.
It seems like theyre just going over them just to get votes and stuff like that, one veteran told CBS North Carolina.
Trump supporters said theyre looking forward to hearing what hell say when he speaks at the convention on Tuesday.
He will have a rally in Winston-Salem Tuesday before he heads to Charlotte for the VFW convention.

Good morning, Biggirl...
Were Hillary a medicine she would be all horrible side effects and of absolutely no benefit to anyone.
If there are any black women laughing loudly, stop over and say hello.
A group of black women said they felt humiliated after being kicked off a Napa Valley wine tasting train tour when a white woman complained that their laughter and loud voices were annoying her.
The 11 women were part of a book club that annually takes the trip through wine country, and say that while at times they might have been rambunctious, they were hardly intoxicated or obnoxious, and that they felt as though they were being singled out because they were black.
Forty-seven-year-old Lisa Renee Johnson documented the incident on social media, which she said began when a train manager said staff received several complaints about the level of their voices and to keep it down. A maître d also told the women they were making too much noise, and when asked who had complained, reportedly said peoples faces are uncomfortable.
The train is set up to be with your friends, to drink wine and have a good time, Johnson later said. We were thinking, Who are we offending?
A white woman in the same car as the book club reportedly became very annoyed with the women, telling them this isnt a bar, despite the fact that the train tours primary purpose is to serve alcohol.
Facebook Family, we have a problem! We sipped wine, enjoyed each others company but our trip is being cut short this

As Johnson recounted on Facebook, the women were told they were going to be taken off the train at the St. Helena station. Staff escorted the group past other passengers, and when they exited the train, were met by officers from the Napa Valley Railroad and St. Helena police departments.
People were looking at us, Johnson recalled. To get escorted into the hands of waiting police officers. Thats the humiliating part.
No charges were filed against the women, who, by the way, included this 83-year-old:
"How can you kick her off the train for being too loud????"

Johnson said the group was willing to let the situation go after they were given a refund and were provided with a van to pick them up from the station, but then a representative from the Napa Valley Wine Train posted a message regarding the incident on Facebook.

The post was quickly deleted, but not before Johnson screenshot it. A spokesperson for the company said it is conducting an internal audit to make sure all of our policies were followed and options were offered.
Johnson is not satisfied, however.
They knew they were out of place, Johnson told the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that she wants a public apology for the humiliations they caused to us as professional women.
Johnsons account is backed up by other passengers who were on the train, and seems to have already taken a toll on the companys reputation.
I have a quick question.
What had taken place with the recent DNC e-mails leaks via a Russian hacking incident, did the Russians give a possible preview to a possible “October surprise”?
Thank-you for your answer.
Morning all.. brandspankingnewthread it is!!! and as usual a great one
Worked all night & really tired. Leave here about 9 & MUST sleep a bit before heading to Niagara. Did not sleep at all prior to work - but I did try.
Caught up on the VA/NC thread and some of the DNC thread
Good morning,Saint!
This is a very wonderful train.
I was up in the observation car, and the scenery is breathtaking.
All those grapes and I have but one glass.
I hope they get the wrecked train known as the DNC Convention Express off the tracks before we get to that area.
This whole thing is amazing. The DNC is inept to say the least. If this were the RNC it would be prime time news with the media for entire Summer.
Thank God... Yes, thank the Lord above that Trump is a republican.
We need to rid ourselves for the next five generations of the DNC for the betterment of ALL Americans...and quickly get rid of the so called NRO wing of the GOP. Ryan to start with, then Cruz then Rubio, who didn’t endorse Trump either.
I listened to some of HRC’s speech to the VFW yesterday (not voluntarily—it was on in the office cafeteria). I could barely hear any applause from the audience, even after the lines where she paused expecting it. Just a smattering here and there. I went on Twitter and other people had the same impression.
I rather think DJT’s reception will be different.
Morning. Prayers for the safety of the Trump Pence team and their families.
Amen.
Without bing nasty Hillary Clinton received a mighty “tepid” reception from the VFW group!!! We shall see how Donald J. Trump does this morning. Stay tuned!!!
The first day of the hate America convention is in the books for all you racists who disagree with them.
Their solution more Marxism.
Pray America wakes
Hillarys speech was on Cspan iirc. Wonder if Trumps will be ?!?
