The one that really matters, of course, is the Ryan primary. Though I wonder if Reince is gearing up to use a loss as an excuse to take retaliatory action against Trump.

That appears to be the case, but, as I recall, Huelskamp was a member of the #NEVERTRUMP crowd, which isn’t mentioned n the AP article. While I think his defeat is primarily due to opposition and funding from the R side of the uniparty, I’d like to think that his opposition to Trump was a contributing factor.

Lesson of the day: Don’t stand for limited government principles. Vote and support the establishment, and the organizations that bankroll the establishment.

Huelskamp was ok. He was one of those sanctimonious “Trump is too vulgar I don’t know if I can vote for him guys”. Its good to see a lawyer replaced by a Dr. And Dr. Marshall is just as conservative as Huelskamp on all the issues that matter and has been far more supportive of Trump’s agenda. 3 terms(18 years) is enough for any elected politician. The club4Growth of trade deficits and outsourcing supported him. The local chamber supported Marshall. The real irony is both Cruz and Ryan screwed Huelskamp. Cruz and Huelskamp had endorsed each other but Cruz went on to hire two firms that were actively trying to defeat Huelskamp. The real issue that killed Huelskamp was getting tossed of the Ag committee. Paul Ryan refused to put him back on after he voted with Pelosi against the farm bill.

I doubt Ryan will lose, but a strong challenge will still send a message. Priebus and the GOPe won’t like that at all.

This didn’t have a damn thing to do with Trump, the GOPE took out a hit on a conservative congressman.

This is what I was thinking. After Mitch McConnell and the GOPe ran racist attack ads against Chris McDaniel in Mississippi, we should have all been on notice that the war is on.

Establishment winning is a bad thing. A Very bad thing. These are the same people who have been making deals with Democrats to keep their big money party going in Washington D.C.

We need a shakeup, not more elite crony government.

I agree and a razor thin victory should sober Ryan up fast.

"Get things done" = vast increases in government spending.

Huelskamp took heavy fire from the farm bureau and other groups for his votes against a farm bill that would have provided staples like crop insurance to farmers in his district. He said he did so because the legislation spent far more on food stamps than agricultural programs.

A vote for Marshall was a vote for food stamps.

You don’t know what was in the voters minds. One thing we do know is that many, MANY conservatives rejected the neverTrump idea that we could survive four years of Hillary after eight years of Obama. You’d have to be a cave hermit not to know the neverTrumpers, by the end, had gotten on conservatives’ last nerve.

Erickson has his Red State convention in Colorado next week. Glenn, the R primary winner for Senate is a Cruz man who enthusiastically supports Trump. Glenn desperately wants Colorado to unite around both Trump and him.

We’ll see if Erickson is purist or compromising or scorched earth next week. So far, his strategy has seemed to be to take down as many with him as he goes down.

Huelskamp sounded just like Erickson in that Fox News piece.

Mike Pence is also a Cruz man who enthusiastically supports Trump. There is a middle ground to be observed. Cruz likely doesn't forgive Pence for his "soft" endorsement, but Pence found the middle position and knew it was the sweet spot for this election.

The #nevercompromiseonanything crowd kills getting anything done. Compromises have to be struck to get things done. That is a maxim in our political system. For example, a bill banning partial birth abortion is a compromise bill that gets something done and points out the issue regarding the whole.

I can only hope that Erickson would reconsider his ways, but then again, pride goeth before destruction.

I can’t really pay attention to Red State now, it means Erickson to me. A lot of folks feel like me so maybe they should vote in new leadership.

That said, it will be interesting to see what happens in Colorado. The Democrat Media says Hillary has CO locked down. They all lie, so I’m hoping that is not so.

Bob Dole talked in third person all the time, and Jayhawkers approved.

Huelskamp had disappointed many liberal farmers because he had not bought into welfare for them at the drop of a hat.

Marshall was supported by the pro-open borders U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Huelskamp was the pro-border law enforcement/anti-amnesty candidate in this race! Marshall was the GOP-e’s candidate, and Huelskamp was targeted for daring to stand against the Boehner/Obama agenda.

[The local chamber supported Marshall.]

The U.S. Chamber if Commerce supported Marshall. The KS Chamber of Commerce supported Huelskamp.

This is a Ted Cruz guy, who alienated both Trump supporters and the DC structure of the party alike. I’m wondering if Cruz is headed the same way himself.
