Donald Trump’s birther event is the greatest trick he’s ever pulled (WP pearl clutching)
The Washington Post ^ | 9/16/16 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 09/16/2016 10:36:49 AM PDT by CaptainK

Donald Trump is, at heart, a showman. He rose to national fame thanks to star turns on reality TV in which he played the tough-talking boss to a group of aspirants hoping to become as successful as he has been in business. His great gift is the ability to draw attention — and then use that attention for his own, usually commercial, purposes.

Trump may have outdone himself on Friday morning. He and his campaign touted a "major" announcement at his newly-opened hotel in Washington, D.C. at 10 a.m. The word was that Trump would walk away from his past skepticism about President Obama's citizenship while also laying the blame for the birther movement at the feet of Hillary Clinton. (That, of course, isn't true — according to numerous fact-checkers — but no matter: Trump planned to say it anyway.)

but wouldn’t it be great if “Born in the USA” were played at the next Trump rally.

No. It's a disgusting, anti-American song.

He is the sponsored son of some one of wealth and prominence.

The entire education of this man smells, actually it reeks.

Elite Punahou tuition: More than Dunham’s salary at the bank! Lots of photoshopping for the yearbook.

Admission/Tuition to Occidental College: Same as above plus his HS grades were too low to qualify for admission. Lived in muslim student housing. There’s a very unusual filming of his initial appearance at the school. He is the main feature of a documentary of sorts -someone needed to formally document his arrival and admission to Occidental. Really weird thing to do in that era.

Transfer to Columbia: Same as above, Weird part is the head of the Political Science Department never met him or remembered him from a class. Neither did the rest of the student body. As a potus candidate, he never fundraised at Columbia University, despite the ripe target audience. Likely because he was just a ghost with a transcript. Travels for spring Break or summer Vaca’ to Pakistan?

Admission to Harvard: unqualified by grades or LSAT scores. Saudis fund 21 million dollar Islamic studies at Harvard to pave the way. Once again, he is the primary subject of a film documentary. So weird. Amazingly, he gets selected as Editor of Harvard Law Review yet doesn’t write a word.

His entire ascent through the Ivy League system is undeserved, unearned, and very well funded. The ultimate post turtle.

Nah. She was brought on to handle the press, do interviews and the like.

He was kicking butt long before she came along.

I think their collective heads would explode. What would be even funnier is that when they see it, and it shows he is as wealthy and as charitable as he claims, they would have meltdown.

I love how all the “fact checkers” eagerly accept the idea that Hillary surrogates aren’t actually working for Hillary.

That’s like the stupid argument that we shouldn’t have gone after Zarqawi in 2003 because he hadn’t formally swore the bayat to bin Laden and thus was technically ‘not al Qaeda.’

There’s enough credit to go around, I think.

And even if this was entirely Kelly Ann’s idea (and I don’t think it was), Trump still gets credit because he knows talent and hired it on and listened to her before making a decision. That’s a leadership skill that very few possess.

I don't disagree with this.

Not trying to be unfair to Kelly Ann, I've seen her around for a long time. She has seemed to be a decent sort. I can't honestly say she's a die hard Conservative or not. Perhaps others know her better.

I look at all the people who come and go around candidates and I watch what they do afterwards. Even some of Reagan's inside folks are now Leftists.

Many of these Washington, D. C. insiders are nothing more than that. They are consultants for hire. One year they'll be backing your guy. The next they'll be backing someone you know is terrible.

I don't trust any of them any farther than I can drop kick them.

They turn around and write tell-all books. They push people whose policies are terrible. They're guns for hire.

Look at Ed Rawlins. There's another guy that became a talking head on the talk shows. Can't remember his name right now, but he went south. You had Baker and others.

Ronald Reagan's biggest problem IMO, was his inside advisors. I think they were far too willing to work with the other side, witness the amnesty. Some people fed Reagan bad information there. He talked about 1 million illegals in country. He was fed that number, and then it turned out there were 3.5 million that registered after the amnesty was instituted.

So it's not just the idea that Trump doesn't get the credit he deserves. It isn't just that folks think it's Kelly Ann and he'll be different once she's gone. It's also the possibility that she is the reason he talks about registering and remaining in place in country. It could be she's the one telling him to only talk about a 1000 mile long wall now.

I don't trust these short term insiders. They'll feed you a whole pestle of bad info.

I'm beginning to wonder if he's coming to California, or going to fight for New York. IMO, both are not only up in the air, but these states need to have him campaign in them if for no other reason than to play up good policies in-state so that local politicians have more street cred.

He can help turn those states back toward the right.

California needs that desperately. Consultants are the reason no Republican presidential candidate has campaigned in California since George Bush Sr.

So it's up in the air for me what value Kelly Ann will be overall. In fact, we'll never know exactly what pluses and minuses she brought to the table.

Trump needs to get the credit. Period.

“WaPo has pretty much lost any semblance of credibility it may once have enjoyed in years past.”

When? When they destroyed Nixon to help Democrats? What credibility? When?

“wouldn’t it be great if “Born in the USA” were played at the next Trump rally.”

No. Look at the lyrics. It’s a bitter song about Vietnam Veterans getting a raw deal on their return from service.

“IIRC, the WaPo published an article that confirmed that the birther movement was started by Hitlery’s 2008 campaign. Or was it the NYT?”

I’m sure that some Freepers are already posting saved links and archived news reports from the time. The MSM are fools to think they can get away with revising history in this day and age.

Hillary started the birthed controversy, and they all know it.

Its been a left leaning paper that favored Democrats as long as I can remember. Washington DC is a city thrives on government programs favored and supported by the Left. That is the WaPo’s main audience. They support and help set the Left’s agenda. And most everyone knew that.

Even after Watergate I think the paper still maintained a modicum of credibility because of its reporting resources, wide circulation, and generally well written articles (style and quality of writing, not content).

I think ever since Clinton got into office the paper has gone down hill substantially. It is blatantly partisan and the writing quality has deteriorated into nothing but cheap left wing propaganda. Of course the WaPo had a visceral hatred of GWB and worships Obama.

Its OK if a paper has a tilt to the left or right, but there are minimum reporting standards that are still essential to maintaining credibility. In my opinion, the WaPo no longer even pretends to uphold those standards.

I admit it does bug me when people don’t give credit where due. And Trump deserves a LOT of credit. Many people talk like he’s some kind of puppet. I suppose we spent too long with Huma and Valjar.

Someone the other day reminded me that Trump isn't perfect. I haven't thought he was. He's still night and day better than anyone since Reagan. Just the fact that he loves the nation and wants to help it is a major improvement over the Clinton's and Obama. I add Bush in too, because in my estimation Bush bungled things terribly.

Don't get me wrong. There are some things to compliment Bush about, but at the end of the day, his hand off was disastrous economically. He ushered Obama in. That was a terrible thing to have on your record.

Trump didn't get to where he is without making astute deals. His track record isn't perfect, but in the economy of the last 12 years, anyone has done well to tread water. He's been doing that and then some.

Take care.

Trump will conduct a press conference in 250 days and the media can inquire as to his favorite television program! Until then bugger off media punks!
