Are these people on drugs? You just disclosed it, you idiots! And then the Russians and Syrians will confirm it after the raids -- there won't even be any chance to say "Oh, sorry, another snafu."

?? When you've already tipped off your opponent? Look, I still believe we'd have the overall edge in a confrontation, but the idea we would not lose planes and pilots, not to mention the risk of escalation, is ludicrous.
Some risks are worth it, but this one? Or "Syria" in general?
Aside from geopolitical strategy (and the US can easily counter the Russian base in Syria that has been there for many years), what's really driving this is Europe's need for petrochem from the ME. If you look at all the treasure, not to mention lives, lost in all this, why we did not cooperate with all allies concerned to build a fleet of supertankers and simply dodge Putin entirely, is a mystery. But then again, it's not: Our leaders ARE stupid, as DT says...
