One out of every 40 people in America lives in New York City. The area's population is 8.4 million, more than in 39 other states. For every vote cast for Donald Trump in the city last Tuesday, more than four were cast for Hillary Clinton; she earned 79 percent of the vote.
In the wake of Trump's victory, thousands of protesters crowded the streets of Manhattan (where Trump got fewer votes than he did on Staten Island, where the population is a third smaller) outside Trump Tower. It's hard to know how many were there, but let's assume it was 5,000 people. That would mean that a fraction of a percent of the city took time to ride the train in and make their voices heard, assuming no one came in from anywhere else. Protests of thousands of people in New York really aren't that uncommon, which could have been a reasonable thing to point out if you wanted to brush the event away.
That's not the angle that Trump and his supporters took. Instead, the president-elect and his backers decided to dismiss the protests in New York and other cities cities that contain hundreds of thousands of people who mostly voted against Trump as being the work of paid protesters. In a tweet, Trump decided that the professional protesters, in his formulation, were also incited by the media, which doesn't make much sense.

> recognize the grief and fear
In 2008 and 2012, I had genuine grief and fear. I was told by relatives and media all would be just lovely.
The only people who cared about my fears were my wife and people here on FR.
When I and thousands attended peaceful tea party rallies, I was called so many names, told to sit down and shut up, told ‘we have to pass it to see what’s in it’, and informed that no one cared about our fears.
In 2016, I just don’t give a ats rass how these agitators feel or how the presstitutes characterize these anti-democracy riots.
I refuse to call them ‘Trump protests’. They aren’t.
The MSM Mafia lying again and again and again.
The Boston protest, for example, was organized via a Facebook page that boston.com (the Boston Globe web site) referenced and linked to. It got over 4,000 I think it was to sign up for their rally the day after the election. And it was listed on that Facebook page as organized by three socialist/communist/Soros-front type organizations. (E.g., “socialist” in their name.)
Others have found the craigslist ads for the thugs.

above “The perfect argument for Electoral college”
Tell him he's right. He should buy a gun, hammer and sickle, and join the revolution. Otherwise, shut up.
Oh, OK. I did not realize that Manhattan wanted Hillary. That changes everything. Maybe Trump should just pass on this whole thing. //s
Let’s see - they travel on busses that have to be paid for. They have preprinted signs that have to be paid for. It is exactly the astroturf tactics that have been exposed so vividly by Wikileaks.
The compost therefore insists they are genuine and spontaneous!
Good morning.
Sorry, I can’t help you because I don’t care what Phillip Bump thinks. Further more, I know that the WaPo is a paid shill for the Clinton campaign and the DNC (see WikiLeaks).

To the contrary, it makes sense because someone had organized and orchestrate the "protests." There are thousands of misguided "useful idiots" willing to take the subway at their own expense to protest. Among those "protestors" would be curious onlookers participating because their school or workplace is closed.
Transportation in New York and other cities is convenient and cheap.
More likely than not the professional protesters (community organizers) and a compliant media were behind the counter productive action.
Just say the Soros, Lewis, Steyer, et al are just honest businessmen falsely used in the vast right-wing conspiracy DJT leads. The buses were being used by local schools to transport kids to sporting events and have no ties to anything political.
See how easy it is to convince then you are both on the same side and that you were forced by evil DJT propaganda to espouse his causes else you’d be fired, but secretly wanted HRC to win all along and would join the protests but you have to work, but support their need to join in.
It doesn’t matter if they are manufactured or not. They are sedition, in its pure form, and they must end.
They are not peaceable assembly to petition for redress, and they should be broken up with force. To the extent that they have sanction from the States of New York, Illinois, and California they threaten to be transform into combinations too powerful to be suppressed by local authority, and we know where that goes.
Obsessing about Soros paying them and other nonsense misses the point. Whether they are paid disruptors or spontaneous revolutionaries, the effect is the same, and so is the cure.
How about refuting it with the idea that these protests don't even make sense?
I can see protesting unjust government policy, individual office holder corruption, or the undue influence of lobbyists on the political system.
But protesting the results of an American election? It doesn't even make any sense.
This is the long agreed upon mechanism for the peaceful transfer of power and it once again worked beautifully.
How does one protest that? It's senseless.
There is no reason to argue against the details of the protests. Their very premise is fatally flawed.
For what purpose?
Since I do not believe there is an undifferentiated "right to protest", I'd like to know what you all think makes this seditious assembly protected by the Constitution.
I am aware that seditious assemblies carried out under a completely invented "right to protest" have been permitted since 1965 or so, but the original meaning of the free speech and assembly for the purpose of petition are being erased by these marches.
These "protesters" are not assembled for the purpose of petitioning the government, even symbolically.
The acts they are protesting (appointment of Electors) are acts of the People, not of the government, and I cannot imagine any way to justify them using Amendment I or any other part of the Constitution.
Time for dogs and fire hoses.
It does not matter whether the “protests” are manufactured or whether they are spontaneous.
There is no right for mobs to form and agitate against our form of government, which is what is taking place here.
Whether the mob is made up of paid protesters (which I think is absurd) or communists whose breasts are filled with red anger is irrelevant.
The comments are pro trump at least 2 to 1. Prior to the election the post articles were typically pro hillary maybe 4 to 1.
WaPo hasn't learned a single thing and will circle the drain screaming like a demented Hillary....
Ok - good idea.
Yes it is! (Perfect argument for the electoral college).
It's not senseless, it's seditious conspiracy and riotous assembly. To the extent that it has a purpose, the purpose is to obstruct peaceful transfer of power and to violate the right of the People to govern themselves, and as such should be broken up with force, including deadly force if necessary.
