Boeing told employees Monday there will be more job cuts in the new year. The jetmaker says it need to reduce costs further in the face of intense competition and a flagging jet sales market.

The message warned that we may also need to use involuntary layoffs.
Funny to see local media paint this as Trump’s fault.
I wonder if they are worried about losing their deal with Iran?
Serves ‘em right for screwing the nation over for orders from Iran.
Just wondering if these workers get totally free medical insurance or do they have co-pays. Also, do they get a pension or do they contribute to a 401K?
I also keep remembering how Hussein’s administration blocked Boeing from moving a plant to South Carolina.
...Funny to see local media paint this as Trumps fault...
The media is going to paint everything as Trump’s fault, up to and including earthquakes and volcanic activity.
I care less about Boeing taking advantage of a diplomatic situation to get a sale than about the growing foreign component of its domestically-assembled jets.
If Boeing is to continue to be boosted by the government with juicy contracts, its planes should be 100% domestic, not comprised of its “overseas partner’s contributions”...
Boeing bet against The Donald.
The 2016 election has shown that no one should bet against The Donald.
I have been in the trades for over 30 years. No job is permanent (except for government hacks.) There are plenty of things to do rather than work for an airplane manufacturer ....maybe they should charge the federal government 20 billion for the new air force one planes in order to keep the employees? /s
“The media is going to paint everything as Trumps fault, up to and including earthquakes and volcanic activity.”
Do meteor strikes still get blamed on Bush? /s
So we are to no longer believe in free market capitalism? You do realize it’s foreign component probably employs thousands here as well in shipping, sales, brokerage, etc?
So, there is this, then there is Ford announcing temporary shut downs of factories a few weeks ago due to high inventory, and now GM announces today that they are temporarily shutting down five factories for the same reason, idling 10,000 workers.
Is there something afoot that nobody wants to talk about?
Airbus is pretty much considering phasing out the A380 because very few airlines want the plane now. That’s why Airbus has a huge backlog of A320 Family and A350XWB orders instead—and Airbus is looking at building a version of the A350XWB longer than the A350XWB-1000 as an A380 alternative.
Where did they do that?
I'm sure this is separate from the Iran sale. When that is terminated then no doubt the layoffs will increase.
Boeing chose poorly.
Used to get a nice health plan but you paid for it. Also, used to get 401 and a pension, now just 401.
The above are for non-union.
Union guys get better deal than non-union.
“Is there something afoot that nobody wants to talk about?”
I don’t believe so. The ripple effects of the obama economy will be felt for months, if not years. An economy this large doesn’t turn around on a dime.
I would give, in my unprofessional opinion, the real economy 9 months to begin to turn around in earnest before attaching credit or blame to the President’s policies. One thing Trump IS responsible for, even now, is the spike up in confidence.
But plenty of land mines out there such as the enormous national debt, public and private pension funds going broke, the possibility of WW3, civil war, effects of years of unchecked illegal invasion (don’t forget the soon to be 600,000 clamoring to get across the Rio Grande by Venezuelans), and those who are working 24/7 to take down America. None of that has anything to do with The Donald.
