UK to stay under EU law in post-Brexit phase, Malta says
EU Observer ^ | 12 Jan 2017, 17:30 | Eric Maurice

With the British government still trying to define its Brexit strategy, the Maltese EU presidency has warned that the UK will remain under EU law even after a deal is reached.

Speaking to journalists in Valletta on Thursday (12 January), Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat said that during the transition period between a Brexit deal and a another agreement to establish new relations, “the governing institutions should be the European institutions”.

He said that, for instance, Britain would still be under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) even after it had left the EU. Leaving ECJ jurisdiction has been a long-time goal of Brexiteers. […]

In what Muscat called an “historical irony”, Malta was incidentally chairing the Commonwealth, the association of former British colonies, since November 2015 until November this year. Muscat assured that across the EU, “nobody is out to destroy the British economy” because it was in the Union’s interest that the UK did well. …

Probably Job One after Brexit is done.

Some people don’t understand the term/concept “sovereignty.” The UK has a long history with it. Thank God 1/2 of then have cultural memory.

Freedom — not for everyone.

If it wasn’t for the British Empire, Malta today would be governed by the Nazi navy.

I know I get laughed at for this, (and for other things :)), but I don’t completely rule out another war in Western Europe.

Germany wants to be boss, in my opinion.

And England voted for BRexit, I would assume, thinking that EU law would no longer apply.

Or maybe I’m just nuts :)

Kick Malta out of the Commonwealth - they can choose to stay with the dying EU.

I look for the EU to collapse Soviet-style, with a strong surge of nationalism among the member states, like we’re seeing now in the US, UK and Eastern Europe.

Yes but the problem with the elites is that they have watched too much Star Trek. They don't realize that we don't exactly live in a Star Trek universe yet.

Next Generation Star Trek had no social castes and no money. No desire for wealth.

Thats what all these elites want but all they will end up doing if they get their way is spreading the misery around the world.

The EU is the 4th Reich. Stead of doing it by direct military force, this time they tried it the sneaky way.

You note the Dutch are right smack in the middle of it this time. I believe it was the dutch royalty that supported the NAZI regimes under the table during the laters take over of Germany prior to ww2

Y’know, I keep seeing these articles in which the EU continues to dictate terms to the UK and I can’t help but thinking that it’s analogous to a divorce in which one party tries to tell the other what the terms will be. “No, dumbass, we’re getting a divorce and you cannot dictate the terms.”
