The wife of a man accused of aiding the shooters in the San Bernardino terror attack pleaded guilty Thursday in an immigration fraud case and admitted that her marriage was a sham, federal prosecutors said.
Mariyah Chernykh admitted that her marriage to Enrique Marquez Jr., the only person charged in connection with the 2015 terror attack, was a sham designed to enable her to obtain legal status in the U.S. after overstaying a visitor visa in 2009, prosecutors said. Marquez is accused of plotting with Syed Rizwan Farook to carry out attacks and with supplying guns used in the attack that left 14 people dead and 22 injured.

These fake marriages among Muslim immigrants are rampant. They know the angles, often it seems with a legal professional and law enforcement giving a wink, wink. Marry a U.S. citizen and you’re in. It’s a paid contract with the U.S. citizen one is marrying. If the illegal has another husband already, she knows the government won’t know. Your name changes with the marriage and they pick a new all American first name, too. - and the person’s former self disappears into the mists of America. Takes money and fakery, but it’s a mode being used widely.
Neither of these in this case was Muslim, just tangentially and coincidentally mixed up in the plot.
They were doing this back in the 70’s. The students from the Middle East would target American women who had low self esteem in many cases and woo them for a green card. There were also instances of it being a business arrangement - all for the green card. I had a friend who was propositioned for a green card. She told the guy to go butt a stump.
What is your evidence that one or both of the women is not Muslim? It looks like they are all Muslims. What am I missing?

“Marquez, an HIspanic convert to Islam, married Mariya Chernykh in November 2014, according to county records. The marriage added another connection to the Farook family; Chernykh’s sister was married to Syed Raheel Farook, the shooter’s older brother.”
IIRC both the Chernykh sisters seem to have been Russians doing the marriage-immigration thing.
Maria was living with a different Mexican fellow (named Romero), presumably not a Muslim, and had a baby by him while allegedly married to US citizen Marquez.
I suspect her sister Tatiana was in the same arrangement with the older brother of Farouk.
Marquez was just a Mexican-American flake and patsy that fell in with that lot.
Are you suggesting that he New York Daily News article that says Marquez converted to Islam is not accurate? You say “he just fell in with that lot.” Falling in AND converting is more than just falling in.
This later report also claims he was indoctrinated into Islam, more than an Hispanic “flake.” One could call lots of these people “flakes.”

The wife, Mariyah Chernykh is charged with conspiracy, perjury and other charges—enough to give her 20 years in prison. She needs some prison time. Then, deport her.
Yes, I agree 100% !
Im suggesting, on the other evidence, that it seems he wasnt the brightest bulb around and was led around by the Farouks.
I rather doubt the intensity of his religious commitment.
There will be a book about this all at some point. I think the Farouks just used a bunch of vulnerable people.
That’s there a full spectrum among Jihadists, from masterminds to dullards, from seasoned recruits to new ones, makes sense. That doesn’t lessen the harm they do when they shoot or blow themselves up.
