Obama's Legacy: Half Of College Students Now Expect Taxpayers To Bail Them Out
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 3/3/17 | Staff

When President Obama came into the White House eight years ago, he promised a "New Era of Responsibility." It didn't work out that way, particularly for student loans, leaving President Trump with a huge mess to clean up.

In fact, when it comes to borrowing for college, students are being utterly irresponsible.

A recent survey by LendEDU of 500 current college students found that 49.8% of them think that the federal government will forgive their loans after they graduate.

Selfish ingrates; looking for someone to pay their way through life, like little children. Let them shoulder the debt, a taste of adulthood and they should make the payments whether they like it or not.

You should watch some documentaries about how these idiots are so surprised that they owe a mountain of money and are already wanting loan forgiveness. So many of them get degrees in areas saturated with graduates and so few are interested in agriculture and other many practical things that our country needs. I am so tired of being expected to sympathize with idiots. This is what adulthood is about, paying your way and paying your debts.

Somewhere along the last six months of high-school....there should be a mandatory four-hour seminar to explain what happens when you take on enormous loans (greater than $50,000). I think at least half the idiots would realize the mess you get into when you take out $80,000 on college costs.

I worked with a gal who at age 40...still had $10,000 left to pay on her college loan. She’d never owned a house....never bought expensive cars....and continually had to deny herself various things in order to make that monthly loan payment.

NO! If they have the money for six hundred dollar cellphones, money to donate to planned parenthood and the ACLU, the taxpayers shouldn’t pay for sh*t. They went to college. THEY can pay for it.

I am at a loss to understand all this whining about student loan debt.

I worked part time to pay for my college as did most of the people I knew except for the kids who were better off and lived in the dorms. I learned to budget, buy used books, share stuff and eat at bargain deals and buffets.

Maybe it's changed since the 70s, but I just can't understand taking on that kind of debt unless maybe a major like pre med takes so much study time it would be impossible to work part time to make ends meet.

What they should do is go back to their universities and demand cost forgiveness like tuition, books, fees etc. Let those who profited the most be the first to forgive and forgive the most.

It’s not socialism at all. No one forces someone to go to university. No one forces these snowflakes to take out loans and take useless courses and get brainless degrees. I heard all the stories about debt and frankly I chose not to go in order to avoid getting into that kind of debt. They have no business asking for others to pay their way through this.

The thing is, that these kids want a degree so they can get a higher salary. Not so they can dedicate themselves to a company and earn their way up, they do it to get a fancy house, expensive car, and of course, various other luxuries they want as an entitlement. They want huge weddings and frequent vacations and designer clothes. If it isn’t student debt, they rack up credit card or loan debt.

Most people go to university to get a degree to fall back on, but frankly a degree becomes expired. Or they go to school to fund a husband, wasting time and money and school resources.

It won’t make a dent in the mess since students won’t listen. They’re too busy anticipating their ‘glorious future’ and thinking about how hip they’ll be, how much fun the university will provide, along with the boozing and fornication. They won’t listen and they don’t want to be told anything unpleasant or ‘not fun.’

They’re stupid kids. Of course they’re going to listen to the media and the government. You can’t expect them to behavior better in such an environment.

Seems like we could solve this by “clawing back” the money from the universities/administrators themselves if students fail to repay their loan money.

If universities aren’t providing degrees that are worth the investment, than why should they enjoy a windfall at taxpayer expense, especially considering the hard-left orientation of most of those institutions?

Why not let the banks pay for the loans? It’s the least they could do since they received a bail out funded by tax payers.
