Repeal Obamacare now
National Review ^ | April 21, 2017 4:00 AM | Dan McLaughlin

Repeal Obamacare now. Here's why it would work. House Republicans are reportedly ready to return any day now to health-insurance reform after the spectacular failure in late March of the American Health Care Act, the resoundingly unpopular bill to “replace” the long-unpopular and misnamed Affordable Care Act. This time, they need to deliver: After seven years of promises to repeal Obamacare root and branch, the party can’t go back to the voters with nothing more than a participation trophy. It won’t be easy, and it may be agonizingly slow, but the Democrats didn’t get Obamacare passed overnight: They spent 40 years battling to pass a universal-health-insurance scheme, and the ACA passed only in March of Barack Obama’s second year in office, after several false starts, much arm-twisting, and the death of a key Senate supporter (Ted Kennedy) who was replaced by a Republican opponent of the bill. Going home empty-handed would be an admission that Republican politicians just don’t care as much about stopping big government as Democrats care about implementing it — a suspicion already all too common among the party’s voters.

I can show them how to do it in 16 words:

“HR 3590 also known as ‘Patient Protection and Affordable Care’ is hereby repealed in its entirety.”

This will be a scar on the first 100 days. They failed to repeal, after having 8 years to get ready.

The Uniparty eunuchs will never vote to reduce Fedzilla’s power.
Fedzilla derives great power from controlling all health care and medical records.
They serve as attendants of Fedzilla, they do not serve the citizens.

If this current submission of a bill does not repeal Obamacare, President Trump will not have a second term. And the Senate and House will go Democratic. America will be finished and probably never come back again. It is that important.

I would let them make it easy on themselves...

add a sunset date:

“HR 3590 also known as ‘Patient Protection and Affordable Care’ is hereby repealed in its entirety as of December 21, 2017.”

That gives them the rest of the year to pretend to come up with a plan to ‘replace’ it... which should hopefully fail

The AHCA does not repeal Obamacare.
It rearranges it.
They are not even trying to repeal it.
They want to fix it.

Control of Washington and two-thirds of state governments and still can’t get nothing done. Wilkow was just talking about this today.

“They failed to repeal, after having 8 years to get ready.”

Yes, but Boehner was only getting ready for his next drink before voting for whatever agenda item Obama had tee’d up.

Ryan is basically a part time speaker. He’s not much on putting in hours, or listening to what others think.....

Can’t do it with a “broad-spectrum-refuse to unite for the People” GOPe willing to abandon what put them in the catbird seat....in many ways they are slimier than the Dims when it comes to breaking promises and trying to spin things.

Obamasnare is America’s cattle cars to the death clinics. Easier to send deplorables out the back door in a bodybag than round them up wholesale.

Just repeal the whole damn thing and let the chips fall where they may. People will still get treated, one way or another. "OMG, we can't do that." Well, We the People say we can. That's what the majority of Americans want, so just repeal it already.

Let there be a hysteria shakeout time, say six months, and then have the states pursue plans, . . health savings accounts, insurance across state line and other conservative proposals.

I would expect President Trump to veto such a bill. He ran on “repeal and replace”, for one thing, and the chaos and economic disaster that would follow would be catastrophic and insure the return of Democrats to control of the federal government.

The old health insurance system is gone, there is nothing to go back to. Instead, something new must be created that eliminates mist of the horrible aspects of Obamacare while maximizing free market principles and individual responsibility and freedom of choice. This is why it is not as simple or fast as you and others wish, yetbit is the reality.

If their intent is to repeal it and replace it with something equally as bad in its own way then why bother? Repeal, do not replace.

Nonsense. Do away with Obamacare and the industry would eventually return to where it was before Obamacare was enacted.

Make the repeal effective January 1, 2019. They can either come up with a replacement, run on a new plan, or have us go back to pre-Obama, which was way better than what came after.

Most Americans love Obamacare. They just don't like paying for it. Just note how many people right here on FreeRepublic are adamant about keeping certain provisions intact.

That's the political reality Washington. D.C. is dealing with right now.

A couple of things bug me about this. They bitched for 7 years and had nothing ready Togo...

And why are they focusing on insurance anyway instead of healthcare itself and the astronomical cost?

Hospitals charge as much as 5 bucks for 2 aspirin. Doctors misdiagnose problems daily. Wrong or not needed surgeries are common. People die every year by the thousands due to wrong drugs or bad combinations of them. Drug companies know their products are killing people and keep selling more. Xarelto, for example, is involved in a class action suit for at least a year now, still advertising.

And politicians are focusing on insurance???

Get the cost down, standardize pricing and show people the cost before it gets done, bring in some doctor accountability, stop the price gouging by drug companies, and the minute a drug kills 2 people pull it off the market.

And that’s just the surface of the real problems. Insurance makes it worse, as long as hospitals know insurance will cover it their prices will keep going up.

Insurance is not the main problem. I wonder how many of our so called representatives own insurance company stock?

I don’t know what the solution is, but I do know politicians ain’t it...

Agree. After a lifetime of never missing a vote, I did not vote in the Congressional portion of the 2016 election. Part of the reason is that congress exempted (as with many laws) itself from Obamacare, and gets around the 27th Amendment by putting its pay increases on autopilot.

The first, second, and last purpose of congress is reelection of its members.

Big time institutional reforms are necessary, and they won’t come from congress.
