Skirmishes involving irate passengers broke out at a Florida airport following the cancellation of multiple Spirit Airlines flights.

Broward Sheriff's officials tell ABC News that deputies were called to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Monday to deal with angry passengers. Videos posted online show deputies trying to break up fights and detaining some unruly passengers.

I don’t blame the pilots being upset, but they could have scheduled a walk out so the passengers wouldn’t be waiting at the gate waiting for hours have time to reschedule their flights. Doing this shows no regard for the customers and just treats the passengers like sh&t.

I certainly don’t condone brawling as a proper reaction.

On some routes Spirit has infrequent flights, so if a flight is cancelled it may take days before another plane is brought in.

PLUS they don’t have agreements with other carriers to put passengers from cancelled Spirit flights on their flights.

Never fly Spirit.

We are “self loading baggage.”

Frustration? Yes. But brawling, no. But airlines treat passengers so badly that it's not surprising when frustration boils over.

But putting your employer out of business isn't much of a solution.

Neither is shafting your employees.

In otherwords, airline policy.

I fly every couple of months - Southwest Airlines - rarely have any issues.

What can the airlines do? They are heavily regulated and expensive to operate. The industry over its history is littered with bankruptcies. For most passengers, price is the number one factor, not service. Southwest probably has the best business model that combines good price with service.

I have had the least amount of problems with Southwest when I fly them, too. But most of my business travel is to Atlanta, Minneapolis, Richmond, and Philadelphia. And that means I spend a lot of time on Delta and American.

It's always been that way. But over the last few years it's apparent that for most airlines the goal is to make basic coach as unbearable as possible in order to justify charging more for the better seats.

So glad to have that portion of my life behind me, having traveled mostly during the golden years when airlines treated customers like...well, customers. Not to mention the daily ration of politically-correct crap you have to eat nowadays just to survive in the corporate world.

Thanks, but very happy to have all that in my rear-view mirror.

I once had a Spirit ticket where they cancelled all flights to the destination without even so much as an email or call to warn us. The cancellation was days in advance. And they never gave ticket on another airline or any refund Money lost ( stolen). Not our favorite airline.

If someone is dissatisfied with their pay and their employer does not give them a raise, move on.

Low time pilots initially hired by the airlines are usually put on the feeder routes and paid a pittance. I’m not sure what it is now, but 12 years or so ago they were making under $20,000/year.

In 1978 I got out of the USMC as a Captain, over 10 years, with flight pay and married housing allowance and making $24,000/year. While riding a Greyhound bus, I asked the driver what one would be making after 6 to 10 years with the company. (while flying in the USMC, we’d joked about being aerial bus drivers)

The bus driver replied, “Oh, about $36,000/yr.

Pilots fly with Spirit or any other airline because they love flying. They see the lesser paying jobs as stepping stones to the better paying ones.

This has nothing to do with Spirit Airlines. This was a mass CHIMP OUT. It could easily have been filmed in a Chucky Cheese or WalMart.

No. It is a management issue. They are screwing over the flight crews. Crews are not picking up the extra time i.e. overtime. Company is canceling because of no crews available since they want to be home; 60 hours of flight per 30 day period. CEO’s make more money but don’t want to pay crews to keep competitive - plus - Spirit management is not negotiating in good faith and they’re under staffed and blame crews for not showing - they want them to extend and the crews say no.
