Oregon State University is now offering fat studies courses to students. The courses regard the concept of weightism and fatphobia as a hot-button civil rights issue. The courses further examine how body weight, shape, and size play key roles in societal privilege and discrimination.
Details on the new courses via Breitbart:
The course will be taught by instructor Patti Lou Watkins, who penned an articlein European Health Psychologist, which argued that humans can be healthy at any body weight, an endorsement of the widely-panned Health At Any Size movement. Body size isnt a good indicator of health, she argues. To Watkins, even individuals who can be classified as morbidly obese could be healthy.
Watkins also dismissed the effectiveness in dieting. The validity of HAES is supported by research over the past decade that reveals the continued ineffectiveness of dieting interventions targeting weight loss along with the potential for harm associated with these strategies, she writes. Surely, thousands of Americans who have lost weight and lowered their risk for certain medical conditions beg to differ with Watkins argument.
I grew to embrace feminist pedagogy in terms of course content as well as classroom practices, Watkins explains. My course now frames body image disturbances more as a function of oppressive societal structures than of individual pathology.

Fat studies? Shouldn’t this be whale studies?
I wish Trump would pull all government funding of universities.
Add “hangnailism”, “sneezeism”, “walkingism”, “sleepingism” or any other worthless “ism” there is! The left coast can’t fall off into the ocean quickly enough!
I was going to read this but I was too busy eating my Krispy Kremes
He’s absolutely right that diets don’t work. The eat less, move more, low fat, high carb, calorie restricted plan has a proven success rate of under five percent.
“Body size isnt a good indicator of health, she argues.”
So, how many fat 80 year-olds do we see?
I've had a BMI for some time that places me just barely in the "overweight" classification. But in spite of that (or because of it) several physicians at one of the world's most famous hospitals are telling me that my "overweight" status has harmed me,and *is* harming me,in several important ways.
So,Patti,Harvard Medical School seems to disagree with your claim.
It is past time to flush George Soros and his “Social Justice” bullshit down the toilet of history.
I've never been able to lose weight by diet alone.I've tried it.I've also never been able to lose weight by exercise alone.I've tried it.
But I have been able to lose weight quite effectively through reasonable eating habits *and* exercise.
“WEIGHTISM” is a Civil Rights issue.’
“WEIGHTISM” is a Snivel Rights issue.
No charge for the typo correction.
First, make the point that group ‘X’ has no responsibility for the negative outcomes the group experiences. They are innocent blameless victims unable to fully participate because...wait for it....old white men took their stuff and they aint got enough.
The template has been so successful its being used at every opportunity. Now its time for the lard asses of the world to unite and point the finger of blame while denying any need for personal change.
Watch out Col Sanders you are the poster child for all that ails US.Youre old white male and southern.
Be fun to watch the blubber people indict you while chomping down a bucket of extra crispy.
Is taking weight advice from a morbidly obese professor like taking sobriety advice from an active alcoholic?
Fat rights meeting.

The first step is to ignore the government’s nutritional advice.
I tried everything and nothing works, then I read Gary Taubes and lost 90 pounds in nine months.
DON’T EAT THE BEAVERS!
Being obese is not detrimental to health? Then how come they can barely walk any more once they hit about 50 or so? To the extent that the obese do ambulate, it’s this pathetic side to side kinda thing and not a straight ahead walk.
Very sad that people do this to themselves through a lack of self control. Even sadder that an education group would escuse and encourage it.
Whenver I see a 500 pound,45 year old woman in Walmart riding one of those electric carts (it's usually a woman) I ask myself..."which came first, the inability to walk or the 500 pounds?".
We must revise the IQ scale to reflect SJWs else we be required to use negative numbers.
I call it a waddle. They no longer walk; they waddle.
A few weeks ago I saw a sight to behold at Walmart. It was a morbidly obese woman, extremely, extremely obese, 500 pounds easily, in one of those electric shopping scooters. The scooter would not move because it was so overloaded.
With her was a hugely obese female companion, perhaps somewhat less so, maybe 300 pounds. The scooter would not budge and the 300 pound woman was shoving and shoving trying to help the 500 pounder in the scooter get moving.
