The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

It’s not hysteria when a Cat 4 hurricane like Irma is bearing down on you and you are in its path.
You get out of the way.
If you don’t get hit after all, you thank God and go back home and pick up whatever pieces you need to.

Doppler doesn’t usually “see” peak velocities, directly, that has to be derived. NWS at KW has multiple gusts above 90 but that’s the highest measured numbers I’ve heard.
Forecasting gets better every year but those who expect perfection will never get it, doesn’t work that way.
That is good news. I have read that there are 6 thousand Americans on the island, or were as of yesterday. My friends may have made it off and I haven’t heard yet.
Most of the inner eyewall precip edge now north of Highway 1. If we’re going to lose KW radar, now’s the time.
I’m really concerned about Siesta Key to Anna Maria Island.
I’ve spent a lot of time on them and love them but they have NO protection at all.
Very low and not very wide at most points.
The currant storm surge forecast models show the ENTIRE area inundated, Siesta Key, Longboat Key, and Anna Maria Island.
I don’t know who they are going to survive this if the islands even exist any more. I really hate to say that but the wave action on top of the storm surge is going to be unfathomable.
Going to see plenty of twister action. I’m expecting it here in Seminole County. Whole of central Florida.
That may be possible but I’ll be the average person there knows how to read the weather well enough and figured it out.
But the insurance company shells out a great deal more that was in the hands of the saving/investing class that ends up in the hands of the working class. Depending on who you are and what you do this can be good or bad economically.

Best guess, peak surge happens from Layton Key, over to points west. east of layton, it won’t drop off supper quick, it, tapers down over many eye diameters.
Still working and stuff is still standing.

Which will take out anything left that was weakened from the first storm surge, eh?

I was watching some webcam from Key West, and I finally realized it was not right, because it was still night time.
I’ve been praying for EVERYONE who is left there.
We have a friend who’s niece was stuck on Longboat Key.
Couldn’t get off because of the traffic and no gas.
Now I’ve heard they have forced mandatory evacuation and all the utilities have been turned off on the keys from Siesta Key thorough to Anna Maria Island.

They are not going to do well.
My m-i-l used to have place on Siesta Key which we had to sell when she passed away so we spent many nice times with her there.
I cannot fathom the mess it’s going to be now.
After going there a few times, I started having nightmares about being in a house on the beach when a hurricane can in and the water was coming up to the house and pressing on the windows to come in.
*shudder*.
I fear for the future of all the structures on those islands.
