After seeing ABC news last night you would think that PR has been blown back into the DARK AGES and no one is doing anything to help them. You would think a country in Hurricane Alley would at least have plans for such a thing.
So, where are all those PR Independence movements now! Step up to the plate!
“I would think being mayor would come with some responsibility.”
PR was a basket case before the Hurricanes, basically a 2.5 world country and is now a 3.5 world country. The fact is the majority of PR’s were on some form of welfare prior to the storms and were incapable of governing themselves. Now, they certainly are not capable. So, what Trump needs to do is use the post WWII Japanese model; declare Martial Law and declare the four star general who is now in PR as the Chief Magistrate with the Givernor as his leaison withe the legislature and administration. However, the General would be running the show. Same as MacArthur did in Japan.
My text to Dad in Puerto Rico this morning and his reply about the San Juan Mayor vs. Trump exchanges. He lives in Old San Juan and knows the Mayor very well.
ME: “What do you think of Yulin’s comment about Trump and the US response, Dad?”
DAD’S REPLY: “Very unbecoming! In Life, there must always be elegance!! The locals are tired and frustrated! This is without reason! But you must behave under stress with elegance! Her mistake!!”
Not the amount of people from FEMA, not the amount of food and aid, not the amount of Military there to help, not the amount of volunteers from Samaritan Church to aid, comfort and help...
NO, it's this senseless Cruz Mayor who can't keep her yap shut long enough to help her own people, wears a shirt that puts all of us here who are helping, loading trucks with water, food, blankets, taking in animals they find for us to find good homes for them (I feel sorrier for the animals than I do for the humans at this point)...but yet here she is yapping like a typical lib that no one is helping all the while the UNION there is preventing anyone to unload the ships, trucks etc. that are there for the good of the people, the UNIONS that want MONEY to feed their humans...
Well I did have sympathy for them, but guess what, I don't now...pack up the food, the blankets, the water, the whatever is loaded on the ships, trucks, bring the volunteers back with the animals and then tell the humans there: ‘GO TO HELL’!!!
Rahm Emanuel
Puerto Ricans = Palestinians = US Ghettos; same ole; same ole!
Bitch, piss, and moan and do nothing to help themselves, ya think?
Yeah that’s City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito who was shrieking about Puerto Rican independence. NOW it’s a different story with her, right? Now she’s demanding help from the USA while bashing Trump. I cannot stand that effin b*tch.
There is no situation too dire that won’t be exploited, no lie that’s too tall, no calumny that’s too over-the-top, for a Rat.
Thank goodness for Trump on twitter. If this was GWB, there would have been no response whatsoever to the lies.
Puerto Rico can't be helped without a Federal takeover. Wretched as the Federal Government may be, they are still a vast improvement over the locals.
Dems see this as a chance to make FLorida blue.
Ungrateful, liberal TRASH!!!
In the 1980's and 90's the economy was booming.
KLINTOON and his fellow communists just couldn't stand the fact that corporations could set up shop there and pay low taxes.
The communists in PR and the US conspired to kick out the US Navy, which was a HUGE mistake.
PR's current economy is a DIRECT RESULT OF AMERICAN COMMUNISTS in the CPUSA and DEMOCRAT PARTY
The Lieberals are running wild with the MSM narrative of the minute at Yahoo.
Not surprisingly.
footnote: the us supreme court is going to hear a case about mandatory union dues.
mandatory union dues approved by politicians go to campaign contributions to the same politicians.
I wonder if the military could bring in their own drivers and just take over the port? Also, could heavy lift helos be used to get containers to cut off towns?
Good idea. Send in Marines. They will get relief distributed. Declare an emergency.
The communists in US and Puerto Rico killed PR economy and drove out the Navy.
KLINTOON TO BLAME.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/26/heres-how-an-obscure-tax-change-sank-puerto-ricos-economy.html
More than half a century ago, U.S. lawmakers sought to help Puerto Rico emerge from a colonial past, transforming its largely agrarian economy into a manufacturing powerhouse. The effort, known as Operation Bootstrap, began with a series of tax breaks designed to attract manufacturers who would provide steady factory jobs.
For a time the plan seemed to work, as standards of living in Puerto Rico rose. Between 1950 and 1980, per capita gross national product grew nearly tenfold in Puerto Rico, and disposable income and educational attainment rose sharply, according to the Center for a New Economy, a think tank based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
One of those tax breaks, enacted in 1976, allowed U.S. manufacturing companies to avoid corporate income taxes on profits made in U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico. Manufacturers, led by the pharmaceutical industry, flocked to the island.
But by the early 1990s, the provision faced growing opposition from critics who attacked the tax break as a form of corporate welfare. Much like the current debate over corporations parking profits offshore to avoid taxes, tax reformers saw the provision, known as Section 936, as too costly for the Treasury.
The tax break also had some unintended consequences, notably the unfair tax burden that fell to domestic Puerto Rican companies.
In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed the law that would phase out Section 936 over 10 years.
Plant closures and job losses followed. Ten years later, on the eve of the Great Recession, employment in Puerto Rico peaked. Left with a dwindling tax base, the Puerto Rican government borrowed heavily to replace the lost revenue.
The idiotic Mayor even threw out the “genocide” bomb. Complete douchebag tool of the party.
Sounds about right.
This narrative is akin to the media narrative that Bush failed to mobilize the National Guard quickly enough in Louisiana back during Katrina...but the President doesn’t do that, it’s the governor...she also failed to grant permission to other governors who were trying to send their own troops there in a timely manner, allowed numerous busses that could have been used to evacuate people just sit their underwater, etc.
