Honestly, I don’t give a ____ about bump stocks. The same effect can be accomplished in numerous different ways anyways. What I care about is that we were promised National Concealed Carry Reciprocity and, instead, we’re getting another pointless ban.

It may be a smart move by the NRA, as they called for a review of the device by ATF. I heard last night that it was Zero’s ATF that had OK’ed the stock in 2010.

Anyone remember 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was murdered? At the same time the Feds raided a secret unlicensed sub-machine gun making company in Southern California. It was said the unmarked sub machine guns were being shipped to South America. It was also claimed LBJ knew and secretly approved the manufacture of these.
Bump Stocks!!!? That is all that the gun grabbers wanted in just a little bit of wiggle room to get their show started.

Here’s the BATF letter. It’s a gun part. The BATF acknowledges that it doesn’t make the piece a “machine gun” and cites the statutes.
It makes no sense to reach across the aisle to `rats.
All we get back is a bloody hand.
The logic here (to assist shooters with limited ability in hands) can be extended to silencers, to preserve what hearing we have left.
There is cuckoldry afoot here today. Why preemptively surrender on this issue when we should be attacking on reciprocity and silenced firearms?
How is this a good move? Throwing American gun accessories companies under the bus?? Who do you want run out of business next? ATI? Magpul?
I thought that once it was made public who allowed these accessories the enemies of our Country would back off the issue.
One thing that I have always adored about Free republic is the vast quantity of thoughtful and informed analysis and information about a multiplicity of subjects. I am EXTREMELY disappointed about much of the bumpfire stock controversy. Much of it sounds has though it was promulgated by the ignorant gun grabbing left.
I am a 2 tour Vietnam infantry combat veteran, and a member of the Illinois National guard for 26 years, to include service in Iraq and the first Gulf War. I was a certified Illinois State Police Firearms and Defensive tactics instructor, and a member of Special Reaction and SWAT teams. I have fired hundreds of thousands of rounds through automatic weapons of all types, belt fed and shoulder mounted, ranging from .45 caliber M-3 sub machine guns up to M2A1 40 mm twin anti-aircraft guns mounted on an M-42 self propelled anti-aircraft gun.
I am retired and spend one day a month on the rifle range shooting my AR-15 rifles. When this slide fire device was first introduced, the low cost and novelty intrigued me and I purchased one. It was a bit awkward to use at first, but in one afternoon, after a bit of practice I was able to get 90% of any length burst on a man sized target at 75 yards, which is close to the normal engagement ranges for truly effective full auto fire from shoulder mounted weapons. It is not as useful has a true selective fire assault rifle since it requires two hands to employ, but it DOES have some measure of limited tactical utility for anyone who practices with it. I never really considered this item to be a true tactical instrument, but I did appreciate the ingenuity and thought that went into turning “bump fire’ into almost as accurate a technique has I could use with a true select fire assault rifle.
The battle has been joined. The anti-gun hysterics are in full cry. They will never satisfied until they achieve near total firearm confiscation. The genie is out of the bottle. You cannot stop psychopaths employing bump fire methods unless you can repeal the laws of Newtonian physics. I realize that some sort of regulation will ensue in the wake of this horrific atrocity. But I don’t like it one damn bit.
If they do this, then they should compromise by repealing the 1986 Hughes Act which caused the prices of full auto weapons to skyrocket. There is NO REASON for a legally transferable M-16 to cost over 50,000 dollars. You can be assured that any such owner will be thoroughly vetted by the background check that would be required to purchase one.

A well organized militia should be able to obtain every type of weapon the military has. Heavy artillery especially.
It’s a false piece of nonsense. A person so motivated can make “bump” functionality a lot cheaper than the 200$ bump stocks. YouTube shows us how.

A bump fire stock is NOT required to simulate an automatic rifle. It is a technique that can be used on almost any semi automatic firearm. Search for videos about bump firing on youtube and you’ll see all sorts of firearms being bump fired including pistols, shotguns, M1 Garands, M1 carbines, AK47s and many more with the standard stock. You can even use a shoestring or rubber band to assist. What I am afraid of is the legislation to be so open ended that a guy with a rubber band in his pocket is going to be arrested and charged with a felony of having an illegal device to enhance the firing rate of the firearm. Any legislation proposed would have to have very concise language restricting ONLY bump fire stocks and not “any device” and I really don’t trust politicians to do that.
Heck, you can hook your thumb in your belt loop and bumpfire an M-1 Garand or any other semi-auto. Lots of vids.
Time to ban pants with belt loops?
