White House Sends Congress Plans for Immigration Enforcement

Document calls for funding sufficient to ‘complete construction’ of Southern border wall, move to detain asylum applicants

By Laura Meckler Updated Oct. 8, 2017 8:05 p.m. ET 18 COMMENTS

WASHINGTON—The White House sent Congress an expansive set of principles that would sharply increase immigration enforcement at the border and inside the U.S. and would limit new legal arrivals, demanding a high price for legislation under consideration to help so-called Dreamers.

The document arrives as lawmakers are considering whether to legalize young people brought to the U.S. illegally as children, often called “Dreamers.’’ It sets out the policies that the White House wants to be part of any immigration deal, but a senior administration official stopped short of saying the White House will insist on them.

“The Trump administration is ready to work with Congress,” a document summarizing the goals says. The documents were viewed by The Wall Street Journal ahead of a White House call in which the principles are expected to be outlined.

Among the principles is a call for funding sufficient to “complete construction” of a Southern border wall. The administration also would detain asylum applicants while their cases are being considered. In most cases applicants currently aren’t detained.

The administration wants to punish jurisdictions that don’t cooperate with federal immigration enforcement—so-called “sanctuary cities”—by withholding federal grant money.

What I’m reading is Trump’s considering amnesty for Dreamers to get this deal. Hope not.

DACA “amnesty” was almost always going to happen.

It’s simply silly to think that ANY politician will be tied to optics of border agents raiding homes and sending teens or young 20s home. Not gonna happen. Never was.

Trump knows he’ll have to sign a DACA bill.

That’s why he’s trying to insert a “poison pill” early.

The worst thing we can get is 4-5 “security compromises” like SOME of the wall, or concessions on anchor babies, or whatever.

The BEST we can get would be the Ds to reject all and insist on a “naked” DACA, which will not pass.

Yep. The same old record playing over and over again.
Amnesty, then no border wall or enforcement. We have heard this tune before.

And if by chance, border wall funding and enforcement is passed
along with amnesty. Amnesty will be granted and the border wall
and enforcement will be stopped by a judge due to “environmental”
lawsuits.

The DACA is fast fading...lst week was the last date for dreamers to extend their dreamership, so no new ones.

Also the following chart shows increasing termination of dreamer status

Ima sick of this crap. Declare a national emergency, send the Army in to build the wall, patrol it and fund thru DoD.

Then change the name back to WAR DEPT.

Also declare all INVADERS will be shot on sight crossing the border - drop a few dozen of them and the invasion will slow to a trickle.

Of course this is all too harsh for reality but its fun to dream!

Something I find galling is that U.S. defense contractor Raytheon isn’t involved. Yet they built thousand miles plus of terrorist proof multi-layered barriers for Saudi Arabia and the initial “smart” fence under Bush around 2004-2006.
But they won’t build similar barriers for our defense, which they built in foreign nations quickly and at reasonable expense.

1. Any amnesty needs to be contingent on COMPLETION of the border wall. That would give an incentive to not only do it, but do it soon and finish it. Until it’s completed any and all illegals are fair game for deportation.

2. No anchor babies. No birthright citizenship.

3. No chain migration.

4. No amnesty for anyone with convictions on their record, on welfare/food stamps, medicaid, or other public assistance

Sorry, but whatever age they are, my analysis stands, and you know it’s right. No politician, not Trump or anyone else, wants these optics. Getting all righteous about ages doesn’t change anything.

Mark it down. If this isn’t killed in the legislature, Trump will sign.

Still a chance got courts to stop it, but I never trust courts.

“It’s simply silly to think that ANY politician will be tied to optics of border agents raiding homes and sending teens or young 20s home. Not gonna happen. Never was.”

But isn’t that exactly what the Trump admin is saying will happen in sanctuary cities?

“ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at worksites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community,” Homan added. “ICE will also likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California.”

There is a MASSIVE “optics” difference between what appears to be in-your-face lawbreakers in CA vs. one-by-one, “hard working,” “students,” etc who are just trying to make it. No, the optics are totally different.

I don’t think there is any sympathy out there now for CA. It’s quite different (and you can see this even in legitimate polls) about the individual so-called “Dreamers.” Trump has even alluded to this.

Exactly.

Many of Trump’s voters are sick of it.

We have good immigration laws on the books yet we have to make a deal?

Oh I agree Trump probably wants to give permanent legal status to the dreamers. But it’s the chain part of it that is problematic and he knows it. The courts have already addressed the program that applied to the parents (DAPA). Optics again.

I know other Freepers will not agree, but if I could trade
*the Wall
*end of all chain migration
*enforcement on steroids (as it now is)
*end to all sanctuary cities

for

DACA, yeah, I’d take it.

You have to remember a small portion of DACA are in the military. Then there will be a much, much larger portion who have committed crimes who can be easily and justifiably deported under the DACA rules. It will be a lot, but it won’t be 800,000. I’m guessing, probably 600,000 are traded for the above items.
