Dan Rather Laments That Americans Think the Media ‘Make Up Stories’

Former CBS journalist Dan Rather appeared on NBC "Today" on Tuesday where he lamented on the American people's lack of trust in the media.
"There’s a recent poll that said nearly half of people think the media make up stories," host Savannah Guthrie noted. "The media itself is under fire."
"What do you think the media needs to do better to enhance its own credibility?" she asked.
"We need to do a better job, we need to do our job. Our job is to bear witness, to be honest brokers of information, to be as accurate and fair as we possibly can," Rather said.
"I think most of the public understands that we’re under attack by very powerful people, including the president, for their own partisan, political, and ideological reasons," he concluded.
Rather infamously resigned as the anchor of "CBS Evening News" after going to air with a story only two months before the 2004 election claiming that then-candidate George W. Bush often went AWOL while serving in the Texas National Guard.

Buckhead’s revelations in that post may have also very well prevented 2 Supreme Court justices from being appointed by John Kerry (not to mention all of the judges on the lower courts). Granted, Roberts has been far from perfect, but can you imagine how much worse it would have been with Kerry appointees instead for both him *and* Alito with all of the rulings the Court has made since 2005 and the impact that would have had?
They would have gotten away with throwing an election from a completely false news story.
He still maintains to the present day the story was accurate - that he just had to be pay the price for taking on President Bush as an incumbent president:

He amazingly even says in one of those videos “everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own facts.” The CBS investigation even revealed they knew the documents were fake but went ahead with the story anyway. http://www.weeklystandard.com/rather-shameful/article/1039561 - that is a multipage article detailing how it all went down.

I always think he & Lamar Alexander have been dead forever.....always surprises me that they are still alive.
I remember one cartoon from back in those days. Had to do with Buckhead in a clever way. How he exposed CBS and Dan Rather.
First question of authenticity came just 19 minutes after the broadcast started.
