Trump is not going to let trophies of endangered animals into the US, nor sanction hunting of those animals in any way.

Some retard is going to lose their job, maybe several.

Elephants are not endangered.

Not allowing trophy hunting will endanger them.

I hope Trump does not bow to the politically correct pressure on this important policy.

There are better ways to address this problem without allowing the killing of these great animals .

No. There are not better ways. The animals, being animals, reproduce beyond the means of the habitat to support them.

The excess will be killed, one way or another. Either they die by disease, starvation, horrific predation, poaching, or legal hunting, by far the most humane of the above methods.

But they will die, one of those ways.

Yes, there are absolutely better ways ... the optics are horrible for Trump on this issue and he will come out way ahead if he does the right thing by reversing the reversal ... there is no way to sell this issue to the general public and there is no way Trump will gain from this .. MAGA is far too important to risk damaging it with an issue such as this ...

Monetary injections with strict oversight into the effected areas as well as sanctions and pressure against countries that purchase the harvests . Anything is possible if the will is there ...This country needs to be at the forefront of combating the slaughter of these animals. Unfortunately Trump will lose support over this idiotic issue ... it makes no sense

Nope. Will not work. Animals can outbreed any amount of money spent on them. You would have to include spaying and/or contraceptives, which essentially reduce them to a domestic species. What is the point?

Exactly. What you do not eat goes extinct. Banning hunting has always lead to uncontrolled poaching. The Soviets almost obliterated whale population after the Japanese whalers were banned off of Australia, without any wildlife Shephard to spend money and time to keep the populations healthy.

Donations to WWF does not cut it. People owning conservation easement is what works.

Wait a minute, I just realized what this is actually about.

This conversation has nothing to do with elephants. All of these horrible elephant problems are occurring in countries where the only hunting is being done by poachers which as you can see causes problems for the emotional types.

In places were controlled elephant hunting is allowed by trophy hunters there are so many elephants that occasionally special culls have to be set up to reduce the herds. The problem for the leftists is that this occurs in places like South Africa. Despite having degenerated into a socialist state, South Africa is still "evil" because whites still own property and own many of big businesses.

This whole thing is really the "anti-colonialism" racism of the left and theyve found a way to turn some of the less educated on the subject amongst us to their side. These more western-ish places have to spend more money with less coming in to control the poaching that begins. International organizations come in to supposedly to watch over the re-endangered animals and work to retribalize these countries with UN assistance. Etc, Etc...

I guess it isnt stupidity after all. Its very clever salesmanship by globo-communists.

They seem to think all of Africa cannot be trusted with their own affairs.

Indeed it is. Look at the social/economical condition and stark difference of the African continent countries v/s rest of the world.

Your idiotic plan wont work and actually causes the elephants to become more valuable to poachers by creating more value for a black market product(wait is this a drug warrior thread?).

Seriously, this is your plan. Steal more tax money from Americans to send to another country that had a plan to save your favorite animal that was working until your sanctions for the purpose of re-endangering that animal?

Which member of congress are you?

But the monies that come in from legal hunting provide parks, park rangers and protection again poachers, lions and angry villagers.

Agree, it should be this way, question is...how do you verify how the monies is spent with all the corruption, chronyism and everything in between running rampant in the most African Countries.

Be it they may be corrupt in most of the continent, and not up to Western nation standards, it’s still their affairs not ours. And I’m not a fan of nation building or going around the world imposing our will especially over small issues. A country like South Africa should be able to manage their own wildlife and hunting. Every bleeding heart and every whining self imagined nabobs from the western world should mind their own. They should visit their city zoos to placate their desires to hug pachyderms.

I assume you’ve never been to Africa. Elephant aren’t killed in canned hunts, try to build an elephant fence! My friends in Namibia have them cross over from Etosha (which is about 150 miles away) and are thrilled when they destroy about a mile of fence on their property.

There are canned lion hunts, etc, no canned elephant hunts. Don’t condemn something you know nothing about. If there is no elephant hunting, there are no elephants. If you were a cattle rancher, would you want them running across your fences, destroying the pasture if there was no economic value?

Another take is this. If we disallow importation, they just pull more hunters from Spain, Germany, Italy ,etc. The elephants still are killed in the same numbers, the PH are going to use all their quota. I’ve seen this with cheetahs, we don’t allow them to be imported, so Italian hunters, etc. shoot them just the same, so it has no effect on total numbers. Actually in Namibia where my friends live, they are quite common, and European hunters shoot them quite regularly. As he says, the US decided they are endangered. I saw them eating a newborn calf, if there is no hunting, no $$, what would a rancher have done to the cheetah? He would shoot them all!

Find for me an elephant hunt in an enclosure. African, not Indian elephants. It doesn’t exist.

Zimbabwe elephants have increased from 4000 to 80000 since 1900. Don’t comment on things you know nothing about, they actually are the shining star on elephant conservation. Kenya has no hunting since the 70’s, population is down 70 percent.
