The higher approval does a couple things as well.

It undermines efforts by Republicans to primary Trump and efforts by Democrats (and some Republicans) to impeach.

I expect it to jump higher after Feb 1, when Americans see their paychecks increase.

It’s always interesting juxtaposing that with the Gallup poll which is always much lower. Obviously they can’t both be right. The Gallup poll has a ceiling of about 40%. Trump seems to go between 33% and 38% generally no matter what he does. When there is a media “scandal”, he loses 5, and when there isn’t, he gains 5.

The White House communication’s strategy could be much better.

1. Have a website or Twitter account which lists every example of fake news from the start of the administration to the present. Continue to update and post bias studies and examples of bias. Don’t permit the left to say Trump calls the media fake because he just doesn’t like criticism.

2. No one sold this tax plan to the public. I saw a video where this tax plan was explained to Bernie supporters as Bernie’s plan. They liked it. When they found out it was Trump’s plan, they were shocked. One guy asked why they aren’t promoting it. Who knows? Trump is great at communication, so he should have done a swing state tour promoting this program and taken it to all sorts of places. I would have suggested they have a video out explaining it in detail but making it understandable and also put out short videos highlighting different aspects of the plan. These should be Tweeted out and sent out by Trump and all GOP members of Congress & Senate. I’d have clips of people who support and will be helped by the bill talking about how it will help them and the difference it will make. Each member of the House and Senate could locate some constituents in their districts/states and make a video showing them talking. I’d have the RNC or conservative groups running some tv ads promoting the bill.

The GOP sucks at Communication. They don’t have the press - have to work 10 times harder.

Consider the media’s own drumbeat operation of daily smears against him, he is not doing that bad at the moment.

Today, polls measure media effectiveness not the performance of the elected official.

Trump’s media “tone” is 90% negative according to a recent Harvard study. His approval rating could be as high as 57% with fair or neutral press coverage.

Same numbers as Obama...

And that’s the dirty little secret. Obama’s numbers were never over 50% until it as clear he was out. Of course, you won’t hear that in the coverage.

What?

I think Trump’s a better communicator than Reagan.

Every other poll is lying and trying to sway/impact opinion instead of capture it. Rasmussen believe it or not, has become one of the best in accuracy, where others were way off in the 2016 election.

None of that problem is attributable to the press??

Trump cuts through where he can, on twitter, youtube, and facebook. The tax plan was all over twitter. They did what you said, no question about it. The message was/is there but the press practically never picks it up.

It would be a lot higher if the idiots who don’t pay income taxes didn’t believe that the income taxes they don’t pay are going to increase.

That's what Trump is up against. They absolutely refuse to cover anything positive.

That’s amazing especially considering the lying mainstream media which praised Obama nonstop and now bashes Trump nonstop.

Both President Trump and The Gipper are/were great communicators but I give the edge to President Trump for the simple fact that he’s had to combat the unprecedented onslaught of negative publicity.

Remember, too, that CNN was launched about the same time Reagan was elected and was the only 24-hour news channel.
Moreover, Reagan never had anything like social media to contend with, platforms that President Trump has truly mastered to deliver his message unfiltered.

God Bless President Trump and may he be reelected in an historic landslide in 2020. I’ll turn 60 years-old that year.

Angels most of the polls are now somewhat dated and Rasmussen polls daily with fresh numbers. It may well be that some republicans and some independents appreciate President Trumps efforts in fighting for tax cuts not only for individuals but for small business and corporations. Rasmussen captures voter sentiment today; not yesterday. The real value of polls is in trend lines. The trends are very positive for Trump and show no signs of reversal. Consumer confidence is at an all time high.

“No one sold this tax plan to the public”

I would add that the RINOs do not have the courage to withstand withering public fire.

Trump worked with them behind the scenes and focused the press, Democrats and deep state on himself. This allowed the fearful republicans to put together a deal behind the scenes.

Pretty much the way someone would draw a charging bull to himself to protect kids.

We can always find a way in retrospect (seemingly) to improve what already happened. ... but that may not have worked to make a deal.

On this issue, I will assume Trump knew what it would take to get a deal done and he accomplished it.

The public is smart enough to see it was not Armeggedon, no one died, etc. next they will see more money. Then a better economy.

That is great PR.

Trump isn’t perfect, but he is better than the other 16 candidates in the primary, better than any demoncrat and better than every POTUS since Reagan.
