A California city plans to give several dozen families $500 a month for a year as part of a program to study the economic and social impacts of giving people a basic income.

The program in Stockton will track what residents do with the money and how having a universal basic income affects their self-esteem and identity, San Francisco radio station KQED reported .

"What does it mean to say, 'Here is unconditional guaranteed income just based on you being a human being?' "

From the makers to the takers. Who you gonna vote for the candidate that gives you free money or that other candidate that would take it away?. Anyhow it's 5:50 AM been up since 4:45 AM to get ready to head off to work. Hope that guaranteed income fellow is nice and warm in bed.

Of course, that’s not going to attract more illegals, because they are all so hard-working that they’d never even apply for such a thing. Flies/manure.

Now this!

Shame on Stockton.

Stockton will track what residents do with the money

And they certainly will account for every dime -- just like biden tracking every last dime of how the porkulus package back in '09. As I recall, when 6 months had passed, biden's people were so far behind tracking dimes, they just gave up, threw their hands up in frustration, and said, "We are way behind; just tell the people we'll get back to them on this." Of course they never did.

Easy enough to track, more or less; but hard to tell the taxpayers that 90% of porkulus went to bolster union pension funds, etc.

Why don’t they just evaluate what people on welfare do with the taxpayers’ money? Freakin’ loony lefties.

What’s to learn? They do this now with food stamps, welfare, free everything. Dems must be slow learners.

The only solace we can take is when he wakes up at noon he will be hung over. Nothing a 40 for breakfast won’t cure, though.

Stockton will make 100x that by selling the user buying habit metrics to advertising and marketing firms. I’d almost guarantee it.

If they do, I’ll bet 2 things. 1) Taxpayers never see any procedes in terms of lower taxes. 2) Taxpayers never see the data, either.

The porkulus bill wasn't intended to help anybody but obama.
It passed during the last budget year of GWB. The purpose was to only inflate the deficit "inherited" by the obam. The $700+ billion made Bush's dificit over $1.5 trillion. It gave the kenyan a ridiculously high baseline, off of which he would "cut" spending - still being able to raise the permanent baseline.

Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown.... I wonder if he could be busted for human trafficking, accessory after the fact... Or some such thing..?

In reality I think he should be shot for treason... Giving aid and comfort to the enemy....

From the article...

The Economic Security Project, co-led by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, is contributing $1 million to Stockton's yearlong research project.

Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs is coordinating the effort in his city of 300,000 people where 1 in 4 residents live below the poverty line.

From Wikipedia

Michael Derrick Tubbs is an American politician, currently the Mayor of Stockton, California. Elected as mayor in 2016 at age 26, he is the youngest mayor in Stockton's history, and its first African-American mayor.

What a bunch of assholes! They are going to test the “universal basic income” by giving money to SOME people. Sorry, but UNIVERSAL means to ALL! You cannot test UNIVERSAL by giving it to SOME.
This is elementary logic.
Obviously, this “test” is going to be declared successful. Of course! The people who get the money are going to say things like: “Now I’m able to get my teeth fixed,” or “It helped pay the rent,” or “I bought a new TV.”
What’s the use? they’re going to do it anyway. No use trying to tell them that the $500 will cause prices to rise, which will have the parasites asking for $1,000, which will make prices go up, causing them to ask for $2,000, which will jack up prices, ..... (repeat until doomsday).
Not to mention that taxes will rise on those foolish enough to work.

Given that it’s an FB principle putting up the dough, I’d lay money that A) the disbursement is in a trackable form like smart debit cards and B) the data will be proprietary and the contract will have strict non disclosure terms.
