Impressive the number of men who got out of their cars and ran forward to see what was happening, and most likely whether they could be of assistance.
It looks like it failed right at the point where the left crane was.
Yes. There are still brave and decent people in this country.
Yes. That crane was putting something on top. You could see the worker falling alongside whatever the crane set up there.
Did you notice the two guys on the top of the bridge, left side? Wonder how they did? That was one quick ride down.
That’s where they were doing the tensioning work on one of the diagonal beams.

Look at the end of the cable from the crane on the left. It moved in a twisting motion just before collapse.
One construction worker died. I expect one survived, probably badly injured.
It would be nice to see an engineers rendition of how this span was tensioned because it doesn’t make sense that they would do it on the top like that.
Not sure if this guy is an engineer, but is fed info by them. Did lots of updates on Oroville dam. Video is about 10 minutes long and gives a general idea on what may have happened and what experts will be looking for.

I watched the video. Very informative. Now I see the the tower and pipes extending down to the bridge are only for aesthetics.

Yes, it is evident that end started the collapse in motion.
The failure analysis is going to take some time. I suspect an investigation into why the roadway wasn’t closed when they were tinkering with the bridge won’t take as long. Same for the OSHA violations.
At 6 seconds notice the school bus on the right side of the screen.
At 7 seconds notice the workman standing on top of the collapsing bridge.
Engineer thoughts?

According to the video in post 12, the crane was there to attach safety cables/harnesses to the workers on the bridge, and not for bridge support itself. That cable movement is likely the worker moving around.
Also, the same video shows one of the two workers falling out of the safety harness as the bridge collapsed.
There was a median underneath, why didn’t they
at least have temporary supports underneath?
It was only half the bridge at that point.
We need to see a pic of the "All-Girl-Engineering-Team" that built this monstrosity.....
.....and the constructions plans they used.
Probably couldn't be bothered doing all those stress and load icky mathematical equations.
