In South Africa, the word was loosely used to refer to native South Africans. It was adopted as a derogatory term after 1948 when the Apartheid system was established. Under crimen injuria, the epithet kaffir has been actionable in the justice system of South Africa since 1976. In 2000, the South African parliament also enacted the Promotion of Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, which has among its primary objectives the prevention of hate speech terms such as kaffir. When describing the term, the euphemism the K-word is now often used instead of kaffir.
Kaffir has also been used to refer to an ethnic group in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Kaffirs, who are partially descended from 16th century Portuguese traders and the slaves that they brought from their colonies in Africa to work as labourers and soldiers. Unlike in South Africa, the Sri Lankan Kaffirs do not consider the term offensive.

That having been said I have a couple of observations.1) I have recently seen a video (on youtube IIRC) of the *President* of South Africa singing,with others,a well known song among blacks in the country specifically celebrating that wanton murder of whites.I'll look it up and if I find it I'll post a link.2) South Africa is just about the most violent country on earth.They have a murder rate,per capita,that's something like 10 times what ours is (I'll look that up too).The overwhelming majority of these violent crimes are committed by blacks.
None of this necessarily justifies rude,insulting comments.But,IMO,it tends to show that racism goes both ways in that country and the racism shown by blacks toward whites all-too-often involves murder or threats of murder.
Also,I found the President of South Africa singing.He's the guy at the mic wearing the yellow shirt.I assume that the guys in camouflage seen dancing are either soldiers or police (South Africa's police are "national",not municipal/county/state like ours).
Take a hint, white people.
The top “black” political class in South Africa is driving the country to become the next Zimbabwe, and we all know how that went.
