Caucasian St. Louisans are to white flight as Kenyan runners are to the Boston Marathon. Volumes have been written about the ability of white St. Louisans to empty out a region, or as a former colleague from Fox 2 once said, Yeah, a black family moved in seven blocks away and my parents ended up in Ellisville.
An entire library wing could be devoted to white flight in the Gateway City. From James Neal Primms 1998 Lion of the Valley to Colin Gordons 2009 Mapping Decline to 20 years of the Where We Stand reports from the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, entire shelves have been devoted to the mpbp (miles per Black person) fuel efficiency of area whites. But, with typical Midwestern modesty, St. Louiss white people refuse to take any credit for the highest rate of building and neighborhood abandonment over a 30-year period in North American history, and instead defer all the praise to the areas Black folks, who they say are really the ones responsible.

I can see America breaking up into small communities, based on political, religious, ethnic groups.
It’s been happening for decades if you’ve paid attention to trends.
It is very, very sad.
Left vs. right.
White vs. black vs. Latino.
Where will this end? HOW DOES it end?
So, it’s the white peoples’ fault for leaving that the neighborhoods they left became crime ridden festering sores upon society?..................
It is sad, but we allow politicians and the media to do this.
They’ll fan the flames with every police shooting and beat down of blacks, while ignoring the tens of thousands of assaults, rapes and murders of white people at the hands of violent minorities.
Folks are getting tired of it.
The bottom line in most cities is that blacks move in and crime goes up in that area. Soon a once beautiful neighborhood is a slum.
This is not true of the suburbs. Black middle class families move in and everything stays the same. They join the community and the sun comes up the next day.
The comments section of the article say it all.
NJ has been segregated since the first non-whites arrived. It is further exacerbated when the non-whites become the majority of school students while a minority of homeowners; NJ whites are tired of paying the highest property taxes in the country to school someone else’s children. The white flight patterns seen across cities in the past are now happening throughout our whole state.
Moving back would be “gentrification.”
The black population in this country shares similar birthrates to whites; in the NYC metro area black neighborhoods (AND white neighborhoods) are becoming a mix of Hispanic and Asian.

So true. We live in a racially/ethnically diverse neighborhood in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. I would bet that not one person could drive our streets and point out where a black, Asian, Hispanic, Indian or Caucasian family lives. We’ve been here for 16 years and have seen the neighborhood go from lily white to a hodgepodge of races while our property values continue to go up.
Where will this end?
Unknown.
HOW DOES it end?
Same way it always ends, with bodies in ditches.

Think Syria.
Do you really want to know?
If we aren't lucky, like South Africa neighborhoods and Jewish Kibutz's.
Or you can just watch "Walking Dead" towns that have been walled up, secured, and trenched.
We might be having to upgrade our vehicles to up armor and anti brick slats like the MNU vehicles in the SciFi Johannasburg based movie "District 9".
Its coming folks.
Maybe Jaco can be excused for not referring to Don Phares’ analysis of Webster Groves North and University City through the sixties. It could be difficult for a drunk. Is he writing pro bono?
However, the pattern of white flight is this;
1960- move from Grand/St. Louis area to Walnut Park
1967- move from Walnut Park to Jennings, Pine Lawn, Bellefontaine; North Pointe and Baden solid.
1975 move from North Pointe and Baden; Florissant opens up.
1980 Jennings, Ferguson and Riverview experience “white flight” to Hazelwood and Florissant. St Charles county starts taking off.
I do not relate this with any moral tinge. Evidence showed that the margins between white and black areas had a high rate of all social pathologies which adjusted once the neighborhood regained am ethnic identity. This was not true in the city limits. All within the city limits just sucks, and anyone with sense who can will move.
White people must learn their place as wallets with legs for the “black community.”
Once you get to upper middle class suburbs, the sort of people who would want to buy there tend to be more future-oriented and appreciate the value of stable to appreciating property values, and so make every effort to protect their investment in their residences. This is true regardless of any racial consideration. Drop down to middle class or working class neighborhoods, though, and you start to see detrimental behaviors, lack of basic upkeep, increasing rates of crime and such associated with a neighborhood that was formerly mostly or all caucasian shifting to a fair number of black residents. As the neighborhood continues to shift toward majority black, outright hostility to older, more longterm white residents begins to appear. Me, I don’t care what color my neighbors are, so long as they treat me decently, respect my property and maintain theirs. No loud gatherings at all hours, no mobs of people parking cars on lawns, no rundown houses, no police being called on my street. My home is my refuge, don’t mess with that and regard your neighboring home in the same way. We’ll get along just fine no matter what you are. But, that’s me. Others are different I guess.
