Your data is about right. However, your what if is irrelevant as casualties would not nearly approach 3.4%. Circumstances, demographics, etc, are much different. Nevertheless, even small armed clash’s of conflicting groups/militias will have major reprocussions for sure.

I don’t see how this would work except for places like much of coastal California and Washington State, New York City, etc. Upstate New York, western Connecticut, most of New Hampshire, Maine, 90 percent of Virginia, eastern Oregon and Washington State?? They would never leave. Even places like southern and northwestern New Jersey would never go and would be darned glad to get rid of Newark and Jersey City.
Never happen. Too many of the “conservative” states get more money from the federal government than they pay in.
The other difference is that unlike the first civil war there is not a clear geographical separation between the two ideologies. Liberals and conservatives are all intermingled. There is also a large group of moderates who just want to live and let live. I think this group is bigger than the conservatives and liberals put together.
There’s always more choices than three.
Defederalizing into regions is just a major catastrophe away anyway.

I think that humans have this tendency too romanticize the past. I am a history nut. I have probably read over 100,000 history books over the course of my life. Thats not counting all the history articles and magazines too. I truly believe that, in the western world at least, this is the best that human beings have ever had it on this planet.
I am way more concerned about someone getting a nuclear bomb into our country than another civil war.

Well, when you pull your head out of the sand, have a look around. Go to gun ranges and see just how many liberals are there as there are conservatives.
