APPARENTLY: Tesla operates on sheer hope...
of what the future might be like, strategist

That will buff right out!
My nav cant even get me to work without directing me to driving through a park. I updated it to be sure the park didnt appear overnight and she wants me drive through it.
Cant wait until its a 44,000 pound tractor trailer on autopilot.
The only other tesla crash i have heard about was from the dude who called her tessie. So either, they are rare, its a super expensive vehicle, not for us normals, or they dont report them for stock prices.
I will trust it when my nav doesnt pull up to a lakefront and announce i have arrived at the dentists office.
Expect more of these stories now that Elon Musk is on the fake news media’s hit list.
Don’t worry, the black box will show that the autopilot was “off”.
It may not have been, but the results of self investigation will show it.
Cop to a speeding Tesla driver: “Okay buddy, where’s the fire?!”
Autonomous vehicles have relatively high resolution optical and radar sensors. They are supposed to be able to avoid obstacles in the road.
Major fail.
There’s my morning chuckle.... ;-)
You call the damn thing Autopilot!
If you don't want people using as an autopilot, stop calling it Autopilot!
But he can't do that. "Autopilot" sounds cool, and Elon as spoken, and when Elon says something cool, that's the final word. He was speaking in camera...
Tesla will not let reality invade. They are going to kill people to keep from having to go back on something Elon Musk said.
The task of driving was designed around human abilities.
You can’t easily substitute another component for the human.
It is easy to automate trains. Not so much with cars.
No argument. I should have been clearer. A GPS device will devise what it thinks is the optimal path, without regard to actual conditions, for instance a stalled car blocking a lane. An autonomous vehicle should sense the stalled vehicle and drive around it.
One place where autonomous vehicles fail is in anticipating the decisions of human drivers, who often act irrationally and illegally. Humans unconsciously take that kind of behavior into account.
Wonder how an autopilot would have handled parking in the infield at the Indy 500 this past weekend?
I’m still very skeptical that code can be written to replace all the judgement one uses when driving in less than optimal conditions.
While it would certainly be better if Teslas didn’t ram every police car they saw, the bigger point is that owning a Tesla sends a message from the owner that “I CARE”, and along with it “What are YOU doing to save the planet”.
(the above is the liberal response to the crash)
When I test drove a Tesla a couple of years ago we tried out the autopilot function. The sales guy was very clear that in spite of the name, it really was only intended as an assist to reduce driver fatigue. Either Tesla has changed their marketing or people are misusing the feature. Maybe a little bit of both. When you are driving a vehicle with the current state of the art in “autopilot” - from any car company - you are still driving and have to pay attention.
Do a search on "fatal Tesla crash" and you'll find a few more.
Mine too, I cannot stop laughing.
You simply cannot make such crap up. hee hee hee
“The carmaker says the function is not designed to avoid a collision and warns drivers not to rely on it entirely.”
Their crack engineering team is rechecking the design.
