How Donald Trump Shivved a Compromise GOP Immigration Bill

Senior White House officials worked with House Republicans for weeks on a compromise immigration measure, but were careful to avoid saying anything publicly that would sink the measure. That changed Friday morning when President Donald Trump walked out to the White House’s North Lawn.

House Republicans reached agreement on a sweeping immigration overhaul measure after conservatives, moderates and leaders negotiated behind closed doors for weeks — with White House legislative affairs director Marc Short also involved. Members said Thursday they had reached a deal to vote on two measures: a measure favored by conservatives and a compromise version in which all sides gave some ground.

House Republicans were eyeing floor votes on both, starting with the more enforcement-heavy measure that has been pushed by House Judiciary Chairman Robert Goodlatte, R-Va., possibly as soon as late next week with votes on the compromise version to come later. That changed Friday morning.

My read on Trump’s press conference was that he hasn’t yet squelched the more conservative (Goodlatte) version. Does it not include funding for the border wall?

“House Republicans are not going to take on immigration,” Chief Deputy Whip Patrick T. McHenry of North Carolina said Friday, “without the support and endorsement of President Trump.”

Quote of the year.

They know if Trump tweets against them, ESPECIALLY individually, they are dead meat hanging.

Welcome to the Trump era GOP.

He can wait for what he wants. House and Senate GOP would do well to give it to him.

Just wait until the DACA deportations start.

funding something only means allocation of funds, if the bill does include language requiring actual construction of the wall, it is meaningless. IMO

> all sides gave some ground.

* One side agreed not to criticize the other side.

* The other side agree to not say anything that the first side would want to criticize (e.g. saying “amnesty is bad”).

These people are ridiculous. Trump has been crystal clear on what he would sign, yet they continue to work to “compromise” among themselves as though his opinion doesn’t matter. What part of “keeping promises” don’t they understand? MAGA!

This “compromise” immigration plan was a sell out to the RINOs hoping to get re-elected in November. President Trump did the right thing by signaling he didn’t like it.

The plan didn’t have eVerify, had a way to get the Dreamers citizenship and didn’t cut the quotas for temporary visas or legal immigration levels. The plan was a dog’s breakfast of stuff the left loves.

This was a Ryan behind closed doors with select Rhinos deal, no conservative Trump supporters had any say what’s over!

How often in the past 18 months, have those bahstids shivved the POTUS? In fact, one might view this latest clandestine intrigue as just another attempted shivving of our President.

When the wall is built and the illegal invaders have been sent back to their country of origin, I will be ready to compromise on new legislation introduced at that point.

Until then, ESAD.

1. Build the wall.
2. End chain migration.
3. Stop the Visa lottery replace with merit based lottery.
4. No More anchor babies.

What’s so hard about that? Propose that with amnesty and I guarantee you Trump will sign it.

If the bill (and it didn’t) include 40B$ for the wall, then its DOA. What part of that doesn’t CONgress understand?

” if the bill does include language requiring actual construction of the wall, it is meaningless. IMO”

I don’t know. If they allocate the funds without saying a wall is prohibited, what could stop Trump from getting it built? I guess we’ll find out soon enough...

Paul Ryan needs to go.

Vote him out . . . roll him out feet first . . . it really doesn’t matter.

He just needs to be gone, now.

Can we all agree?

The word Conservative does not belong in ANY agreement to legalize DACA illegal aliens.

Let’s just take that out of the equation right here and now.

Any deal for the wall is tantamount to 30 million cattle entering before the barn door is shut, if there’s a legalization a-foot.

NO is a very simple word. Immigration law is a simple concept.

Quit f’n with us.

Follow our laws. Congress agreed to them, and a president signed them into law. Now adhere to them you idiots!
