Five people have died and several others are hurt after a shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper building in Annapolis, Maryland, local and federal officials say.

The names of the dead were not released immediately. The suspected shooter is in custody, and authorities are questioning him, officials said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

"I don't know what to say other than our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, and we take comfort knowing that they are in God's embrace," Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh said.

Injured victims are being treated at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore and Anne Arundel Medical Center, the county executive said. Several are "gravely injured," Schuh said.

The shooter opened fire at 888 Bestgate Road, and the call for an active shooter came in at 2:34 p.m, Capt. Russell Davies with the Anne Arundel EMS confirmed to NBC News.

First responders arrived within 60 seconds, Gov. Larry Hogan said.

“Makes me wonder how many THOUSANDS of pictures the authorities have of MY face!”

I often wonder how many thousands of pictures these cameras have take of my middle finger.

I lived in the Hyattsville and College Park area from 1941 until I retired in 2002. It was a good place to be a kid in the ‘40s and ‘50s, but during the Vietnam War and thereafter it steadily went down hill. Several years before retirement I started looking at small farms in western Pa, western Md, and WV. Retired, sold my home in College Park, and moved to my 87-acre farm in Garrett County, all in the same week. Now the closest town is five miles away, has one traffic light, and never a traffic jam. Crime is limited to local bar fights now and then and the occasional poacher. Life is good here. Oh, and the County has voted Republican continuously since it was established in 1872.

Those cameras are still-shot cameras rigged to sensors and strobes so that they only take a photo when a vehicle transgresses the intersection against a red light.

Not in Indianapolis.

We have NO red light ticket stuff

Plus the cameras do NOT aim at plates!

Yes. We have those here in CA, too. A network of them placed at various locations tied into online traffic monitoring centers. Many are accessible in your browser by John Q. Public and can be used by anyone to check traffic conditions anytime day or night (assuming there’s visibility).

The odd-looking instruments on a couple of the lower arms are emergency pre-emptors that flip the lights to give emergency traffic more immediate right-of-way.

Where’s Hogg boy making an appearance and fist pump, in MD?

Seems like all of the news outlets have dropped this story.

Praying hogger has sent himself on a one way trip to obscurity.

Thanks Jane Long.

The Camera Hogg, the Attention Hogg, got tired of all the attention and of not being taken seriously. He's no longer the hot meme / media creation.
