INVESTIGATE THIS!!!
In this case, I think mocking France's losses in WW1 (Which they didn't lose) and WW2 (which they clearly did, humiliatingly so) doesn't really serve a purpose other than to alienate the French people, who may be inclined to view us favorably in light of the ineptness and corruption of their own pols.
On the other hand, in 4D chess style, perhaps that's Trumps intent. "Hey France, rediscover your sense of being a proud and independent nation, don't be a pupped of the EU. Here's something you can get riled up about to start the process of defending your nation's interests, history, and culture." Who knows?
Is this actually true? Regardless of our gender, our genes come from both our parents. The British, French and German women who survived world wars I & II would pass the genes of their fathers onto any children birthed after WWI and/or WWII . Also regardless of gender: British, French and German children who survived WWI and/or WWII would pass the genes of their (dead or alive) fathers onto their children.
I don't claim to be a genetic expert but it may be that the gene pool is more secure and insulated from wars than we think.
I would time this to occur once BREXIT clicks into place....leave some US forces in the UK as part of our future with them, and then quietly dismantle the bulk of our forces in Europe (saving perhaps the naval port in Italy). All of this should have started in the mid-1990s as the Warsaw Pact dissolved.
F^^^ the French! There is nothing there I need. End NATO, bring our troops home and our war dead. Finally throw out the parasites in the UN and all their crooked “Ambassadors” and lets get on being America. We really do not need much of anything from Europe. Without American money and military protection the EU will fail in months.
Macron is leading the charge for the American left.
The American left looks to foreign leaders for their direction and strength and motivation.
In any world war things will be different for the U.S. We’ll lose a catastrophic number of women, too, because we no longer know the difference between men and women.
Genetics is complicated, and I am no expert, but I would say this:
The boldest, most adventurous, most manly people in your society are likely to volunteer when the war breaks out. Their risk of dying before reproducing is greatly increased.
As the war goes on, conscription plays a big role and any man, no matter how bold or timid, may find himself on the front lines. In this situation, the timid may hold back whenever possible — they are increasing their chance at surviving and reproducing. Meanwhile, of the drafted men, those who are relatively bold will step up and do a man’s duty — their risk of dying before reproducing is greatly increased.
Make no mistake: many bold men fought in the war, did their duty, survived the struggle and went on the reproduce, Many Freepers have parents and grandparents who fit this noble pattern.
But a lot of the men who were genetically inclined to bold action did not make it through. I believe the genetic stock of Europe today is not what it was in 1913.
Macron started this latest squabble. But, in general, it is an error to belittle the French performance in the world wars. The French fought valiantly in WW I. Anyone who doubts that need only study the battle of Verdun (1916).
And they fought valiantly in WW II. The British evacuation of Dunkirk would not been so successful had it not been for stubborn French rearguard action. The spectacular collapse of France in 1940 came not from French cowardice, but from superior German planning.
France does deserve some serious criticism regarding the behavior of the Vichy officials. But even that wasn’t unique. Most occupied countries had their Quislings.
Another point —
There is the Nature vs Nurture argument.
Even if genetics isn’t everything, there is the matter of nurturing. If the man survives the war, he may bring up his children to understand duty and bravery. That teaching prepares the next generation to be ready for the next great struggle.
But if the fathers die, then the mothers continue on, and they may teach the lesson that War is bad, and men die for “no reason” and fighting is bad because “that’s how I lost your father”.
Look at Roger Waters from Pink Floyd. His father was killed in WWII. Waters never knew him. Waters hates the Jews to this day because he thinks WWII was somehow their fault. He learned bad lessons taught by someone. That sort of teaching produces generations that can no longer fight.
Buddy of mine just got back from the celebrations in Belgium. While leaving the site of the Lognachar Crater, he and his son (who is studying WWI in Europe) met an elderly British couple that lived abou 40 miles outside London. Talk got around to politics. Much to the chagrin of the son, the Brits had noithing but praise for President Trump. When the kid said he didn't vote for him*, the old man said, "...well, you should have!" He then continued to say that President Trump is the ONLY leader who tells everyone the truth as well as exactly what he thinks and feels. He also called Clinton"...that crazy woman."
* he voted for Johnson
“The Left has seen Hitler behind every Nationalist for a long, long time.”
Yes. Ironically, it was the nationalist spirit of Britain, called upon by the great Winston Churchill, that was essential for Britain in resisting the onslaught of the Nazi’s. Loving your nation is a good thing.
It's one of the propaganda golden geese. Like the Race Card, for example. Or white sexist oppression.
gaijin,
Should be considered a war crime.

I agree. See my post #29. While there is an upside to Trump’s remarks (don’t mess with the alpha male), there is probably more downside than upside.
Edinburgh Castle.
"Dear Ike, today I spat in the Seine."
One should not doubt French valor in the Great War. My reading of history has the German summer offensives of 1918 being blunted without significant American participation.
I don’t see what is gained by ill-informed and gratuitously-insulting tweets. We can all giggle at them, but are they helping to win elections?
As Thumper’s mother said, “if you can’t say something nice, then don’t say nothing at all.”
All the leaders of Europe are childless.
The following almost seemed like a pattern with Islamic terrorists that made the headlines 15 or so years ago.
Get recruited by terrorists.
Train for a terror mission.
(Go home and) Get married.
(Return and) Carry out the mission.
