MILTON, Fla. (WEAR) Dozens of people filled the post office on Dogwood Drive in Milton on Tuesday morning. Everyone in the designated "complaint line" had the same problem.
The Santa Rosa County residents say they have been waiting for days and even weeks to get their mail.
Some, like Donald Burkett, say they've been dealing with the issue on and off for months.
About a year ago, he says his packages and mail started disappearing.
"This affects people's lives!" Burkett said.
Recently, he says the problem has gotten worse. He tracked some packages that should have been delivered and never were. Burkett says he has heard every excuse in the book.
"One lie after another. Well, our trucks broke down, we put it on the wrong truck, well your carrier was sick," he recalls.
He says those answers aren't good enough anymore.
"I've had bills come in late because of it, my medicine isn't getting here on time," he said.
Terrell Pusateri says he hasn't gotten any mail since last Wednesday.
"They're saying we're specifically requesting them to come back to the shop because they're not delivering," Pusateri said.
Pusateri says postal workers have told him that he requested his mail not be delivered, and be held at the post office. That response was echoed by many others who were in line. They say it's just not true.
"No! I've been up here numerous times requesting my mail!" said Burkett.
The people effected just want the problem solved.
"I came here to find out what it is and we're given the runaround and we're brushed off," James Mitchell said.
Channel 3 did receive this statement from USPS' Strategic Communications Specialist Kanieckiwa Johnson regarding the complaints:
The Postal Service strives to always provide the best possible service to our valued customers. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced by customers in the Milton, FL area. The Postal Service delivers to over 157 million addresses every day and unfortunately, on very rare occasions, instances of mail delivery issues may occur. “I ran out of gas! I got a flat tire! I didnt have change for cab fare! I lost my tux at the cleaners! I locked my keys in the car! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! IT WASNT MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!”
Does the Post Office employ third world mail persons from a background of theft and corruption, perhaps?
Mail theft is a huge problem in Sonoma County. Most people receive mail at a PO Box. The thieves are seldom caught and little is done. The postal police, in the past, have had a reputation for being hard on theft and fraud.
Half of its probably being stolen, either by the carriers themselves or passersby.
Kaniekiwa Johnson......I’m getting a vivid mental image...yes, it’s becoming clearer now.....Kaniekiwa probably did not compose that bit of PR blather.
“My dog ate your mail!”
:: Pusateri says postal workers have told him that he requested his mail not be delivered, and be held at the post office. ::
I got a call from a marketing agency that spoofs phone numbers to entice you to answer. They spoofed my phone number to call me.
Idiots.
Indeed, they do.
And in our neck of the woods
I used to live in Milton 42 years ago. I think the post office there is still holding my mail. /sarc
When I first moved to my rural home in South Carolina, I had problems like this. My neighbors also had problems.
I reported this to the USPS and they opened an “investigation” (read: how to coverup for other employees idiocy). After three months, the investigation, SURPRISE!, had gone no where.
At that point I got me a box at the UPS store. After another three months I removed my RFD mailbox out by the road.
Yes, the UPS box costs money, about $200 a year. But they provide 24/7 access, receive packages for me and email me when I receive one. For me, the UPS charge is a small price to pay to be done with poor/no/messed up delivery from the USPS.
You forgot the biggest cause:
GLOBAL WARMING!
But hey, not to worry! They are *on the case*!! **PROACTIVE**, even! (I dont think that means what they think it means.)
// Local postal management is aware of customer concerns and is taking proactive [rofl] steps to make improvements, including staffing adjustments,... blah blah blah... //
This is inexcusable and the duration and extent of repeated unaddressed errors show the management at all levels just dont care.
Make like the VA fire them all.
Whatever happened to their motto? Millennials now working for USPS?
