Combine rent control with the inability to evict delinquent or disruptive tenants and soon it becomes impossible to maintain properties especially in marginal areas. NYC has benefitted immensely from suburban millennials who have moved to the city, shared apartments and paid huge rents that have allowed landlords to maintain really old buildings. That is ending. Comrade Bill may soon find he will have many decrepit buildings that landlords cannot profitably maintain and soon they will come to resemble the current dysfunctional public housing that the government now owns. Socialism in action. It will fail. De Blasio will of course blame banks, capitalists, Republicans the Catholic church and whoever else he imagines.
Just don’t go 227 miles southwest of you end up in Washington DC. Out of the pan and into the fire.
