ALBANY A millionaire walks into the State Capitol and says, Raise my taxes.
Please.
This was no joke: The millionaire was Morris Pearl, a former BlackRock executive who is the chairman of Patriotic Millionaires, a group dedicated to pushing for higher taxes on businesses and the ultrarich.
Testifying on Tuesday at a state budget hearing, Mr. Pearl asked a bipartisan group of about half a dozen legislators to create a new multimillionaires tax on households earning more than $5 million a year in order to fund new affordable housing, infrastructure and schools.
Im a person of some means. I could live wherever I want, said Mr. Pearl, a former managing director at BlackRock. I could live in Kansas, if I wanted to live in a state with low taxes and low services. But I dont.
Of the more than 200 members in the Patriotic Millionaires, 41 live in New York, a state known for its high wealth and high taxes. Their message arrives at a decisive moment: Democrats control the State Legislature and the governors mansion for the first time in a decade, and the ascendant progressive wing of the party is increasingly clamoring to narrow the income inequality gap, both in New York and nationwide.
Several Democratic state legislators, as well as the City Council speaker, Corey Johnson, last week threw their support behind a so-called pied-à-terre tax, on wealthy peoples pricey secondary homes, after a hedge fund billionaire bought a $238 million penthouse on Central Park. Senator Julia Salazar of Brooklyn was elected in November as the Legislatures first democratic socialist.

They can freely pay more. Also they can not use deductions etc. This is nothing more than stupid people showboating.
Or, they could just voluntarily pay more.
If I remember correctly, nothing prevents folks like him from volunteering to pony up extra. Knock yourself out.
...a fool and his money....
Pet the tiger and give it some meat scraps, and perhaps it will eat you last.
Churchill said something about feeding the crocodile in the hopes it eats you last.
You beat me to it.Morris can whip out his check book anytime he wants to.
Just write a check for whatever you want to the state, guarantee they won’t say no.
Oh, they want that for everyone ELSE...
These traders really never built a real business..and they feel guilty ..
He can write a check to the state or give his money away
So just cut a check asshole. Nobody is stopping you.
A Virtue Signaler, virtue signaling...nothing more. Do a yearly wealth tax and this fool will flee the state in a New York minute.
I'd be happy if they all wrote a check to the local highway departments for a Billion. Cuomo has been diverting highway funds for years to his pet social programs and the roads and bridges are a disaster. Once upon a time infrastructure was actually something the Government should do, but now can't because they absconded with the funds and fees and taxes meant for roads and highways.
“New York Millionaires Tell Albany: Tax Us, Please”
So the politicians are blocking his ability to do the right thing and share his wealth?
This man should go around the politicians and just send me the money. I’ll see it is used for the public good. And I’ll cut out the middlemen in Albany.
The call themselves “Patriotic Millionaires”
Their definition of what it means to be a Patriot is to allow government more control of the money you earned.
Mao Tse Tung would approve....
If they’re sincere, let them give 90% of their money to the state so it can pay lazy slobs to vote democrat.
